Dr. Clark has served as teacher and principal in Oklahoma high schools, as teacher and athletic director at Raymondville, Texas, High School, as an instructor at the University of Oklahoma, and as an associate professor of education at Fort Hays, Kan., State College.

In August 1779, Point du Sable was arrested at Trail Creek by the British and imprisoned briefly at Fort Michilimackinac on suspicion of being a spy for the United States who had helped George Rogers Clark in his capture of Vincennes.

* General George Rogers Clark ( 1752 – 1818 ), Revolutionary war hero, conqueror of the old Northwest Territory ( modern day midwest of the US ), hero of the Battle of Fort Sackville ( Vincennes IN ) Feb. 1779, Father and founder of the Midwest.

The United States Army established Fort Clark in June 1852 on Las Moras Creek, and named it after John B. Clark, who had died in the Mexican War.

On February 18, 1861, on orders from United States Army General David E. Twiggs, Fort Clark was surrendered to the Texas Commission.

In the early 1872 a number of Black Seminole Indians living along the border were organized into a company of scouts and brought to Fort Clark.

In 1914 the Black Seminoles were removed from the Fort Clark reservation, but some of their descendants still live in the county.

The Seminole Indian Scouts cemetery was founded on Fort Clark in 1872.

A large Civilian Conservation Corps camp constructed adjacent to Fort Clark helped to employ some people during the Great Depression.

Fort Clark was closed in 1946.

Clark County is part of the Fort Madison – Keokuk, IA-MO Micropolitan Statistical Area.

One, Fort Clark, was located on high ground adjacent to The Cabins.
