GC professor Dr. Richard Huston became a Fulbright scholar for the third time in July 2007.

After starting out defending bootleggers during Prohibition, in 1931 he joined the Houston law firm that became Fulbright & Jaworski, one of the largest law firms in the United States.

On August 1, 1946, President Harry S. Truman signed the bill into law, and Congress created the Fulbright Program in what became the largest education exchange program in history.

Fulbright opposed McCarthyism and the House Un-American Activities Committee and later became known for his opposition to American involvement in the Vietnam War.

The House adopted the Fulbright Resolution which supported international peace-keeping initiatives and encouraged the United States to participate in what became the United Nations in September 1942.

In doing so, however, it drew increasing criticism — notably, by name from Senator William Fulbright — and became increasingly marginalized from academia ; it became independent of Penn in 1970.

In 1972 he retired from Swarthmore and returned to the Netherlands, where he became Fulbright Professor to the University of Amsterdam.

Walcha taught many significant American organists of the twentieth century who travelled to Germany as Fulbright scholars: these include Robert Anderson, David Boe, Margaret Leupold Dickinson, Melvin Dickinson, Delbert Disselhorst, Paul Jordan, David Mulbury, Fenner Douglass, Jane Douglass, Grigg and Helen Fountain, Barbara Harbach, Charles Krigbaum, George Ritchie, Russell Saunders-all of whom became major teachers and performers after their studies abroad.

During the Balch presidency, nine Wesleyan students have been awarded Fulbright Scholarships and one student became the first student from any West Virginia college or university student to become a Mitchell Scholar.

In 1950 he became a Houblon-Norman research fellow supported by the Bank of England, and in 1952 he went as a Fulbright Scholar to Harvard University.

After a stint as a Fulbright lecturer in the universities of Rome and Bologna lasting from 1951 to 1953, Fiedler became the Chair of the Department of English in the University of Montana.

Joseph Corbett, Jr. ( October 25, 1928 – August 24, 2009 ) a former Fulbright scholar, became the 127th fugitive named on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list, placed there March 30, 1960 for the kidnap and subsequent murder of Adolph Coors III, heir to the Coors Beer fortune.

Fulbright & Jaworski became a tenant of the building in 1985, the year of development of the tower property.

While a student at Princeton he became a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and was a Fulbright Scholar at University of Turin in Italy.

He was a Fulbright lecturer at the Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg in 1968 and 1969 and a founding member of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages ( ACTFL ).

During the later part of his Senate service Arkansas had, perhaps, the most powerful Congressional delegations with McClellan as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Wilbur Mills as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Oren Harris as chairman of the House Commerce Committee, Senator J. William Fulbright as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Took Gathings as chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, and James William Trimble as a member of the powerful House Rules Committee.

Professor Schechter is the former Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and member of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board ( Fulbright Program ), a Presidential appointment.

He is also an Honorary Fellow of Merton College, Oxford and Trinity College of Music, and a member of the Anglo-American Fulbright Commission.

An active member of the French Resistance, he was awarded the Légion d ' honneur by Charles de Gaulle, the croix de guerre with three palm leafs and a star, the Medal of Freedom from US President Harry S. Truman, Ellis Island Medal of Honor from US President Ronald Reagan, was a Fulbright scholar, member of the Order of the British Empire ( OBE ), officer of the order of Orange-NASSAU, Medal of Honor of the Statue of Liberty, and Ph. D. from the University of Minnesota where he was a Mayo Foundation Fellow.

He is a graduate of the University of Miami and the Mannes College of Music, a Fulbright Specialist, and a member of the Board of Governors of the Florida Chapter of The Recording Academy ( Grammy Awards ).

She trained in modern dance, Cecchetti ballet and classes at the Detroit Institute of Arts in puppetry, mime and theater since childhood, was a member of the Detroit Puppetry Guild, Puppeteers of America and UNIMA, performed with George Latshaw ’ s puppets for the Detroit and Cleveland symphony orchestras and Jim Henson offered her an apprenticeship with the Muppets which was declined to accept a Fulbright scholarship to India.

He was also a former member of the Fulbright Commission and a former Governor of the English-Speaking Union and co-chaired with Lord Watson the Jamestown 400th Commemoration British Committee ( 2005-7 ).

In 2002, a statue of former faculty member, senator, and namesake of the college housed in Old Main, J. William Fulbright, was erected in the rear courtyard of the building.

One of his childhood friends was J. William Fulbright, the future United States Senator from Arkansas and Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

In his first general election to the Senate, Fulbright defeated the Republican Victor Wade of Batesville, 85. 1 to 14. 9 percent.

Testimony to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in 1963, Fulbright claimed five million tax-deductible dollars from philanthropic Americans was sent to Israel and then recycled back to the U. S. for distribution to organizations seeking to influence public opinion in favor of Israel.

Despite serving in the Senate for 30 years, Fulbright remained Arkansas ' junior senator throughout his tenure, serving alongside senior senator John L. McClellan.
