On January 21, 1840, a petition to create Lake County from seven townships in northern Geauga County and Willoughby Township from Cuyahoga County were presented to the Ohio House of Representatives.

The headwaters of three watercourses in the Lake Erie basin are located in Geauga County.

In 1995, the company acquired parks from Funtime Parks, Inc., namely Geauga Lake near Cleveland, Ohio, Wyandot Lake in Columbus, Ohio, Darien Lake, near Buffalo, New York, and Lake Compounce near Hartford, Connecticut.

Geauga Lake, Wyandot Lake, and Adventure World had water parks within their amusement parks while Frontier City had one that was adjacent and has separate admission.

In 2000, Premier Parks assumed the Six Flags Theme Parks, Inc. name and continued re-branding its parks, most notably the former Geauga Lake into Six Flags Ohio.

On September 21, 2007, it was announced that Geauga Lake would close and only the connected water park would operate as Geauga Lake's Wildwater Kingdom.

In 2011, the water parks name was shortened to just Wildwater Kingdom, removing the Geauga Lake prefix.

Geauga Lake was previously known as " Picnic Lake " or " Giles Pond.

Geauga Lake park itself was established in 1887.

Geauga Lake's Olympic-sized swimming pool was built, and it stayed in operation until the mid-1960s.

In 1972, the Gold Rush log flume water ride was added, and two years later Geauga Lake added the Skyscraper, which took passengers up 21 stories for views of the park.

Corkscrew coaster made its debut in 1978, making Geauga Lake the second amusement park in Ohio ( Cedar Point in Sandusky was the first ) and one of the first amusement parks anywhere to have two looping coasters.

The park was immediately " unflagged ", " unbranded ", and reverted to the name Geauga Lake.

David Tod attended Burton Academy in Geauga County and studied law in Warren, where he was appointed postmaster.

In 1835, Ford was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives from Geauga County.

After another district was eliminated in the round of redistricting following the 2000 Census, LaTourette's district was renumbered to the 14th district of Ohio, where he currently serves the eastern suburbs of Cleveland, northeastern Summit County, northern Trumbull County, northern Portage County, Ashtabula County, Lake County, and Geauga County.

The Edge never regained popularity, however, and was removed in 1986, eventually ending up at Geauga Lake in Aurora, Ohio.

Due to Geauga Lake / Six Flags Ohio's close proximity, as well as the fact that the SeaWorld side of the lake had height restrictions, Busch approached Six Flags about buying the Six Flags park.

In 2005, Cedar Fair invested $ 26 million in Wildwater Kingdom, a new water park on the former SeaWorld site, which resulted in the name being altered slightly to Geauga Lake & Wildwater Kingdom.

Rumors ranging from the total closing of Geauga Lake to closing everything except the water park to scaling back the rides area even more were rampant.

On Friday, September 21, 2007, Cedar Fair announced its decision to not reopen the ride side of Geauga Lake park and that Wildwater Kingdom side would reopen exclusively as a water park called Geauga Lake's Wildwater Kingdom.

In 2008, Michigan's Adventure opened the state's first suspended looping coaster, Thunderhawk, which was moved from sister park Geauga Lake after it closed.
