During 1976, Grant wrote her first song (" Mountain Man "), performed in public for the first time — at Harpeth Hall School — the all-girls school she attended, recorded a demo tape for her parents with church youth-leader Brown Bannister, then later when Bannister was dubbing a copy of the tape, Chris Christian, the owner of the recording studio, heard the demo and called Word Records.

Grant then made a few more albums before dropping out of college to pursue a career in music — Never Alone, followed by a pair of live albums in 1981 ( In Concert and In Concert Volume Two ), both backed by an augmented edition of the DeGarmo & Key band.

Grant then maneuvered the Union Army to Cold Harbor, a vital railroad hub that was linked to Richmond, but Lee was able to make strong trenches to defend against a Union assault.

In March 1865, while Lincoln met at City Point with Grant, Sherman and Admiral David Dixon Porter, Union forces finally took Petersburg and then captured Richmond in April, after an unsuccessful Confederate assault on Fort Stedman.

In the 1999 Will Smith film, Wild Wild West, the joining ceremony is the setting of an assassination attempt on then U. S. President Ulysses S. Grant by the film's antagonist Dr. Miguelito Quixote Loveless.

Subsequent biographies of Strachey then Virginia Woolf, Forster, Keynes, Fry, Vanessa Bell, and Grant removed all veils.

When Lincoln called Grant east in the spring of 1864 to take command of all the Union armies, Grant appointed Sherman ( by then known to his soldiers as " Uncle Billy ") to succeed him as head of the Military Division of the Mississippi, which entailed command of Union troops in the Western Theater of the war.

Grant then ordered Sherman to embark his army on steamers and join the Union forces confronting Lee in Virginia, but Sherman instead persuaded Grant to allow him to march north through the Carolinas, destroying everything of military value along the way, as he had done in Georgia.

On July 25, 1866, Congress created the rank of General of the Army for Grant and then promoted Sherman to lieutenant general.

His cavalry captured a Union artillery battery and then he broke out of a Union Army siege headed by Major General Ulysses S. Grant.

President Ulysses S. Grant then signed the bill into law on June 22, 1870.

He then played a demented submarine commander in Devil and the Deep with Tallulah Bankhead, Gary Cooper and Cary Grant, and followed this with his best-remembered film role of that year as Nero in Cecil B. DeMille's The Sign of the Cross.

With issue # 140 ( March 1994 ), the title was handed over to Grant Morrison for a four-issue arc, co-written by the then unknown Mark Millar.

General Ulysses S. Grant's victories at the Battle of Shiloh and in the Vicksburg campaign impressed Lincoln and made Grant a strong candidate to head the Union Army.

Johnston launched a massive surprise attack with his concentrated forces against Grant at the Battle of Shiloh on April 6, 1862.

When the Confederate attempt to defend Petersburg failed, the Confederate army retreated but was pursued and defeated, which resulted in Lee's surrender to Grant at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865.

Johnson's vintage independent streak put him very much at odds with professional military commanders, including Gen. Don Carlos Buell who left Nashville defenseless when he had to reinforce Grant at the Battle of Shiloh.

In May 1979, while at the album release party for her second album, My Father's Eyes, Grant met Gary Chapman, writer of the title track ( and future husband ).

In 1984, she released another pop-oriented Christian hit, Straight Ahead, earning Grant her first appearance at the Grammy Awards show in 1985.

In 2001, Grant sang God Bless America in front of a sellout crowd at the Owen County Fair Grounds in Spencer, Indiana.
