Grenander died in East Berne, New York, at 79 years of age.

Grenander began studying at the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology in 1881 and changed to the Royal Technical College of Charlottenburg in 1885.

It is one of the oldest U-Bahn stations in Berlin, opened on 11 March 1902, with a remarkable Art Nouveau entrance hall by Alfred Grenander built in 1913.

Alfred Frederik Elias Grenander, ( 26 June 1863 in Skövde, Sweden – 14 March 1931 in Berlin ), was one of the most prominent architects during the first building period of the Berlin U-Bahn in the first half of the twentieth century.

The station opened on October 12, 1913 ( build by A. Grenander ) as the first section of a projected metro line connecting Wittenbergplatz with Berlin-Halensee railway station which was never built.
