HM Prison Dartmoor is a Category C men's prison, located in Princetown, high on Dartmoor in the English county of Devon.

Prisoners convicted of scheduled offences after 1 March 1976 were housed in the eight new " H-Blocks " that had been constructed at Long Kesh, now officially HM Prison Maze.

HM Prison Sale was completed in 1887 and it operated for 110 years until it was replaced by a private Fulham Correctional Centre.

There are two prisons in Islington, a men's prison, HM Prison Pentonville and a women's prison HMP Holloway, which in the early 20th century was used to hold many suffragettes.

At the western end is HM Prison Wormwood Scrubs, built between 1875 and 1891 by convict labour.

The site is now occupied by the prison High Down ( HM Prison ).

There is no distinction made in Scotland between assault and battery ( which is not a term used in Scots law ), although, as in England and Wales, assault can be occasioned without a physical attack on another's person, as demonstrated in Atkinson v. HM Advocate wherein the accused was found guilty of assaulting a shop assistant by simply jumping over a counter wearing a ski mask.

At the start of the First World War, the Currency and Bank Notes Act 1914 was passed which granted temporary powers to HM Treasury for issuing banknotes to the value of £ 1 and 10 /- ( ten shillings ) in the UK.

In 1943, during World War II, HM Fort Roughs was constructed by the United Kingdom as one of the Maunsell Forts, primarily for defence against German mine-laying aircraft that might be targeting the estuaries that were part of vital shipping lanes ; it comprised a floating pontoon base with a superstructure of two hollow towers joined by a deck upon which other structures could be added.

Although in the United Kingdom there is no strict legal or formal definition of who is or is not a member of the Royal Family, and different lists will include different people, those carrying the style Her or His Majesty ( HM ), or Her or His Royal Highness ( HRH ) are always considered members, which usually results in the application of the term to the monarch, the consort of the monarch, the widowed consorts of previous monarchs, the children of the monarch and previous monarchs, the male-line grandchildren of the monarch and previous monarchs, and the spouses and the widows of a monarch's and previous monarch's sons and male-line grandsons.

In World War I a great cordite factory, HM Factory, Gretna, which straddled the Scotland-England border at Gretna was opened to manufacture cordite for the British Army and for British Commonwealth forces.

HM Factory, Gretna, the largest propellant factory in the United Kingdom, which opened in 1916, was by 1917 producing 800 tons ( 812 tonne ) of Cordite RDB per week ( approximately 41, 600 tons per year ).

The service was attended by all the heads of the states which had participated in the allied landings, notably US President Bill Clinton, HM Queen Elizabeth II and most notably, several members of the American Secret Service.

The Duke of Edinburgh has also been a patron of the Cutty Sark ( which was opened by HM the Queen in 1957 ) since 1952.

Following a statement from Dr Hart-Davis, in which he mentions the level of complexities within the UK tax system, his contract with HM Revenue & Customs has ended .< ref name =" Reference to his being ' fired ' bottom of page ">

HM Coastguard does not possess many of its own lifeboats but does have several MCA Falcons which are a type of lifeboat that are used in areas that might not necessarily have a lifeboat provided by the volunteer Royal National Lifeboat Institution, although it often wet leases commercial helicopters — mainly Sikorsky S-92s and AgustaWestland AW139s — and tugs to provide search and rescue cover in certain areas.

An incident in October 2007 in which HM Revenue and Customs lost CDs containing no less than the records of 25 million child benefit recipients in the United Kingdom — the data apparently being entirely unencrypted — is a case in point.
