The Keeper of the Seven Keys albums proved to be highly influential and aided in the formation of a new wave of European power metal bands, such as Blind Guardian, Stratovarius, HammerFall and Edguy.

HammerFall was formed when guitarist Oscar Dronjak quit Ceremonial Oath and invited Jesper Strömblad ( from In Flames ) to join him as a drummer in a new musical project he had been contemplating for some time.

HammerFall was relegated to being a side project of them all for several years.
