Despite popular belief that it is the highest waterfall in England, at, others have a longer fall: Cautley Spout, in Cumbria's Howgill Fells, is almost high, and Hardraw Force, in North Yorkshire, has an unbroken drop of ; whilst underground, on the flanks of Ingleborough, Fell Beck falls an unbroken down the Jib Tunnel of Gaping Gill Hole.

Scenes set in Sherwood Forest were filmed throughout England: Burnham Beeches in Buckinghamshire was used for the outlaws ' encampment, Aysgarth Falls in Yorkshire for the fight scene between Robin and Little John, and Hardraw Force in North Yorkshire was the location where Marian sees Robin bathing.

The gorge is situated alongside the Pennine Way and also has an impressive waterfall, Hardraw Force, at the far end.

It is not a regular contesting band, but won first prize in the unregistered section at their first contest at Hardraw Scar in September 2007, repeating the accomplishment in 2008.

Hardraw Scar () is a limestone gorge located behind the Green Dragon inn at Hardraw near Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales.

In recent years two other musical events have started up at the falls: the Hawdraw Bash is a Folk Rock concert in early July and the Hardraw Gathering is a three-day festival of traditional music at the end of July.

The path crosses the dale to Hardraw, then begins the ascent of Great Shunner Fell.

The eastern side of Stybarrow Dodd is more complex with a ridge running down to Dockray and the popular Aira Force waterfall.
