Fred Beckey, Heinrich Harrer and Henry Meybohm completed the first ascent in 1954, via the long West Ridge ; this was a great accomplishment for the time, and used techniques such as extensive front-pointing which were unusual in the climbing world.

Seven Years in Tibet () is an autobiographical travel book written by Austrian mountaineer Heinrich Harrer based on his real life experiences in Tibet between 1944 and 1951 during the Second World War and the interim period before the Communist Chinese People's Liberation Army invaded Tibet in 1950.

The book covers the escape of Harrer, and his companion Peter Aufschnaiter, from a British internment camp in India.

Karl Harrer ( 8 October 1890-5 September 1926 ) was a German journalist and politician, one of the founding members of the " Deutsche Arbeiterpartei " (" German Workers ' Party ", DAP ) in 1919, the party that soon would become the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei ( NSDAP ).

On the other hand it can be noted that Karl Harrer, the Thule member most directly involved in the creation of the DAP in 1919, was sidelined at the end of the year when Hitler drafted regulations against conspiratorial circles, and the Thule Society was dissolved a few years later ( Goodrick-Clarke 1985: 150, 221 ).

The Thule Society's Karl Harrer was a co-founder, along with Anton Drexler ( the party's first chairman ).
