Haysi is a town in Dickenson County, Virginia, United States.

Haysi is located at ( 37. 205639 ,-82. 294615 ).

Haysi is located at the confluence of Russell Prater Creek, the McClure River, and the Russell Fork River.

The area where Haysi is presently located was originally known " The Mouth of McClure ".

The name Haysi is said to actually originate from a post office established at a general store owned by Otis L. Sifers and Charles M. Hayter.

The Haysi area is served by Haysi High School and Sandlick Elementary School in the nearby community of Birchleaf, Virginia.

However, businesses in the town also accommodated travelers as the rail system was a popular form of transportation at the time and Haysi was located on a line of the Clinchfield that linked eastern Kentucky with northeast Tennessee, western North Carolina, and South Carolina.

It also featured cameo appearances by Hazel O ' Connor, Bananarama ( including Stewart's future wife, Siobhan Fahey ), Kate Garner of Haysi Fantayzee, Thereza Bazar of Dollar, Jay Aston and Cheryl Baker of Bucks Fizz, Kiki Dee, Jacquie O ' Sullivan and the gender-bending pop singer Marilyn, who would go on to musical success of his own that same year.

Haysi Fantayzee was formed in 1981 and consisted of singers Jeremy Healy ( also known as Jeremiah ) and Kate Garner, and Garner's boyfriend songwriter / producer / manager Paul Caplin.

The first store was constructed within the present town limits of Haysi by Paris Charles for workers of the Yellow Popular Lumber Company.
