Lawson is home to Ray County's oldest bank, Lawson Bank, founded in 1883.

The Daimler Motor Company Limited was an independent British motor vehicle manufacturer founded in London by H J Lawson in 1896, which set up its manufacturing base in Coventry.

His American Fur Company founded Fort Astoria at the site in 1811.

In 1810, John Jacob Astor's Pacific Fur Company sent the Astor Expedition that founded Fort Astoria as its primary fur-trading post in the Northwest, and in fact the first permanent U. S. settlement on the Pacific coast.

The company was founded in 1886 as the American Arithmometer Company and after the 1986 merger with Sperry Univac was renamed as Unisys.

The company superseded the Bunge Company founded in Amsterdam by Johann Bunge, in 1818.
