* John Henry Hopkins, Jr., former rector of Plattsburgh's Trinity Episcopal church was the author of the well-known Christmas carol We Three Kings.

He was successively rector of Norhill, Bedfordshire ( 1656 ) and of All Hallows, Bread Street, London ( 1673 ), and in 1676 was elected a canon of Gloucester ; his friend, Henry More, one of the Cambridge Platonists, resigned in his favour.

On its current site, in Smithy Loan, since 1850, St Mary's was established as a church school for poor children under the incumbency of the first rector of Saint Mary's Episcopal Church, Canon Henry Malcolm.

The church was again restored in 1867 when the rector was the naturalist, Henry Harpur Crewe.

Borley Rectory was constructed near Borley Church by the Reverend Henry Dawson Ellis Bull in 1862, and he moved in a year after being named rector of the parish.

In 1421 the rector of the parish church, Thomas de la Warre ( Lord of the manor of Manchester ), obtained a licence from Henry V to refound the church as a collegiate foundation.

University College Dublin ( UCD ) dates back to its foundation at 86 St. Stephen's Green in 1851 as the Catholic University of Ireland founded by John Henry Newman who was its first rector.

He then studied under William Thomas, rector of Ubley and a puritan divine ; Bull, however, was more influenced by his son Samuel Thomas, who directed Bull to read Richard Hooker, Henry Hammond, and Jeremy Taylor.
