Although the present situation has resulted in severe traffic problems on the bridge itself and in Menlo Park and East Palo Alto, Caltrans has been unable to upgrade the relevant portion of Highway 84 to freeway standards for several decades, due to opposition from the cities of Menlo Park, Atherton and Palo Alto.

Freeway opponents fear that upgrading Highway 84 will encourage more people to live in southern Alameda County ( where housing is more affordable ) and commute to jobs in the mid-Peninsula area ( where businesses wish to be located in order to be close to Silicon Valley ), thus increasing traffic in their neighborhoods to the south and west of U. S. 101.

Since highway 84 is a split route, the southern segment of state route 84 runs from Livermore in Alameda County and eventually ends at California Highway 1 in San Gregorio, a coastal community located in San Mateo County.

An " inner circle " highway connecting all major towns and district capitals is completely paved, and the all-weather Trans-Kalahari Highway connects the country ( and, through it, South Africa's commercially dominant Gauteng Province ) to Walvis Bay in Namibia.

The N2, which connects Tema in the Greater Accra Region to Kulungugu in the Upper East Region ; the N10, which connects Yamoransa in the Central Region to Paga in the Upper East Region ; and the N12, which connects Elubo in the Western Region to Hamile in the Upper West Region ; all connect Ghana to landlocked Burkina Faso, where it joins another highway in the Trans-African network, the Trans-Sahelian Highway.

State Route 504, locally known as the Spirit Lake Memorial Highway, connects with Interstate 5 at Exit 49, to the west of the mountain.

The Pan Borneo Highway connects Sabah and Sarawak as well as Brunei.

It is located on Highway 23, midway between the cities of Calgary and Lethbridge.

Mysore is connected by National Highway NH-212 to the state border town of Gundlupet, where the road forks into the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. State Highway 17, which connects Mysore to Bangalore, was upgraded to a four-lane highway in 2006, reducing travel time between the two cities.

As the first automobile road across America, the Lincoln Highway brought great prosperity to the hundreds of cities, towns and villages along the way.

( Note: In Pennsylvania and Ohio, there have been many new 4-lane bypasses constructed on U. S. Route 30, so to follow the 1928 route of the Lincoln Highway, at times it is necessary to travel the old U. S. Route 30 alignments which travel through the center of the cities and towns along the route.

( Note: President Lincoln was popular, and many cities named streets after him, so not every " Lincoln Way " is in fact the Lincoln Highway.

When the Interstate Highway system was funded, and sometimes locally as some cities, counties or states improved their own local highway networks, stretches of road containing a lot of turns, frequent stops ( traffic signals ), and-or narrow hard to widen ways and roadbeds, stretches of local roads became bypassed and locally named Old Lincoln Highway.

The milestone flivver led parades through most of the towns and cities along the Lincoln Highway.

Served by major east-west Interstate Highway 64, it is linked to others of the cities of Hampton Roads by the circumferential Hampton Roads Beltway, which crosses the harbor on two bridge-tunnels.

Marquette is located directly across from Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and the two cities are connected by U. S. Highway 18, which crosses the river on the Marquette-Joliet Bridge.

Shah Alam is well connected to other main cities in Klang Valley via a network of major highways, namely the Federal Highway, New Klang Valley Expressway ( NKVE ), Shah Alam Expressway ( KESAS ), Guthrie Corridor Expressway ( GCE ), North-South Expressway Central Link ( ELITE ) and the newest highway Kemuning-Shah Alam Highway ( LKSA ).
