Near Downtown, the urban core of the city has a variety of neighborhoods, including historic Westport, Ivanhoe, Hyde Park, Squire Park, the Crossroads Arts District, 18th and Vine Historic District, Pendleton Heights, Quality Hill, the West Bottoms, and the River Market.

Also known as Red Jacket, the village includes the Calumet Downtown Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places ( NRHP ).

Located near the center of the Iowa State campus, the Farm House Museum sits as a monument to early Iowa State history and culture as well as a National Historic Landmark.

One of the first National Historic Sites dedicated to the accomplishments of a woman, it preserves the early history of the American Red Cross, since the home also served as an early headquarters of the organization.

The restored capitol building is part of the Benicia Capitol State Historic Park, and is the only building remaining of the state's early capital buildings, which were in San Jose and Vallejo.

In the early years of the 20th century the term auto trail was used for a marked highway route, and trail is now also used to designate routes, including highway routes, designated for tourist interest ( e. g. National Historic Trails, the Cabot Trail and Quilt Trail ).

In the early 21st century, the Ybor City National Historic Landmark District has seen the creation of the GaYbor District, which is now the center of gay and lesbian life in the Tampa Bay area and home to the majority of gay bars and dance clubs, restaurants, and service organizations.

The Battle of Fish Creek National Historic Site, the name has been changed to Tourond's Coulee / Fish Creek National Historic Site to preserve the battlefield of April 24, 1885, at la coulée des Tourond, Madame Tourond ’ s home, early Red River cart Fish Creek Trail and the site of Middleton ’ s camp and graveyard.

In the South Main Historic District in Covington, about 50 residences from the late 19th century and the early 20th century are still intact.

Historic sites include Governor Eurith D. Rivers ' home, which was moved from its original spot on Banks Lake to West Main Street in Lakeland in the early 1980s ; Union Baptist Church, located near Georgia Highway 135 ; and Fender Cemetery, located east of Lakeland at the junction of U. S. 221 and Georgia Highway 37 on land that once belonged to David Fender.

Historic sites in the park include the Old Paney Homestead, the Policemans Point precinct, Stone Dam, and Pondanna Outstation, where agriculture was attempted in the early 20th century.

The entire town, characterized as a picturesque early 19th century village, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Architecturally, the Fenwick Historic District is composed largely of Shingle-style residences from early in the century.

Today, the Stevensville Historic District contains roughly 100 historic structures dating back to the town's early days.

Historic Deerfield includes a museum with a focus on decorative arts, early American material culture and history.

Settled in as early as 1823, the Dundee Historic District offers a collection of shops and restaurants along the River Raisin.

West Union ( Hancock Township, Minnesota ) | West Union Lutheran Church ( 1868 ), in rural Hancock Township, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places because of its important to early Swedish Lutheran settlers in the region.

Bridgeton Historic District — which covers a quarter of the city — includes more than 2, 000 properties, ranging from the early Federal architecture to the 1920s, including many structures eligible for individual listing and some documented by the Historic American Building Survey ( HABS ) during the 1930s, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 and is the largest such district of any municipality in New Jersey.
