Barney was born on April 20th ( which Homer remembers as being on the same day as Hitler's in " Viva Ned Flanders " and Barney's entry into the Springfield Film Festival in " A Star Is Burns " where Barney states that he is 40 years old ).

Barney's commercial defamed Homer, causing Homer to lose his customers.

Examples of this include the scene where Homer drives through the treacherous mountain roads, a parody of a scene in Sorcerer, and the scene in which Kent Brockman reports Barney's accident, in which his attire ( including glasses ), camera angles and facial expressions are in reference to the manner of Walter Cronkite's reporting of the Kennedy shooting.

Homer spends the night at Barney's apartment.

Barney's apartment, which Homer spends the night in when he is kicked out by Marge, is partly based on an apartment Jim Reardon, Moore, and a few other animators of The Simpsons shared in college.

The photographers ' flashes enrage King Homer, who breaks free from his restraints, squashes the reporter, eats Barney's peanuts, breaks through into the wall into a nearby theatre and eats Shirley Temple.
