Humboldt was born in Potsdam, Margraviate of Brandenburg, and died in Tegel, Province of Brandenburg.

His brother, Wilhelm von Humboldt, died in Alexander's arms on April 8, 1836.

Humboldt, who had known him intimately for a period of more than 60 years, called him the greatest geologist of that period.

The results of this trip were later partly communicated to Hermann Carl Conrad Burmeister ( 1807 – 1892 ), and to Alexander von Humboldt ( 1769 – 1859 ), but the remainder ( the greatest part ), were used in Loew's own later publications.

Humboldt had long intended to write a comprehensive work about geography and the natural sciences.
