A second football team, IFK Malmö played in Sweden's top flight for about 20 years and the club's quarterfinal in the European Cup is the club's greatest achievement in its history.

Despite this, the team produced a great finish to a season, that already included impressive victories over eternal rivals IFK Göteborg, Malmö FF as well as champions Helsingborg.

IFK is arguably the most successful club in Sweden together with Malmö FF, and one of the most successful clubs in all of northern Europe, as it is the only Scandinavian team to have won a pan-European competition.

IFK Göteborg are still considered to be one of the " Big Three " in Swedish football, along with Malmö FF and AIK, despite only having won two titles in the last ten years.

A majority, 55 %, of football fans in Gothenburg support IFK, and the club is the fourth most popular in Stockholm ( after AIK, Djurgårdens IF and Hammarby IF ) and the second most popular in Malmö, after Malmö FF.

The day of the season had a spectacular set up ; ÖSK, IFK Göteborg and Malmö FF all had the chance to win Allsvenskan, and the latter two played against each other.

Halmstads BK was 36 minutes from winning their fifth Allsvenskan title after leading Allsvenskan most of the season, but only managed 1 – 1 against IFK Göteborg in the last game, while Malmö FF, on the same point prior to the last match, managed to win with 1-0 against IF Elfsborg, Markus Rosenberg, on loan from Malmö FF, became league top goalscorer with 14 goals.

Halmstads BK have an average of 4000-6000 spectators when playing home, when playing teams like Djurgårdens IF, IFK Göteborg or Malmö FF then audience can rise to 8000-10000 people, however much because of the away supporters.

Swedish clubs have appeared in European club competition finals three times, IFK Göteborg won the UEFA Cup twice, 1982 and 1987, and Malmö FF lost the European Cup final in 1979.

The 105 championships have been won by 18 different football clubs so far, with the top four title holders being IFK Göteborg ( 18 titles ), Malmö FF ( 16 ), IFK Norrköping and Örgryte IS ( both 12 ).

* 30 October 2004: Malmö FF wins their 15th title after passing Halmstads BK in the last round of Allsvenskan as they beat IF Elfsborg 1 – 0 while Halmstad, that would have taken the gold with a win, only managed to play 1 – 1 against IFK Göteborg.

They are used by almost all member clubs, and those clubs that do not use them have special permits from the central organisation for using other colours, like IFK Malmö that uses yellow and white or IFK Stockholm's blue and red kits.

After police investigation, it was also stated that the transfer from Malmö was an illegal one and club representatives of IFK Göteborg were sentenced to jail for tax evasion.

He will now again play against his two former clubs Malmö FF and IFK Göteborg.

Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna Malmö, also known simply as IFK Malmö, are a Swedish professional football club based in Malmö.

During the 1909 season IFK Göteborg also used Örgryte IS ' home ground of the time, Balders Hage, due to a conflict with the owners of Idrottsplatsen.

That night, he also equaled the competition record, joining Marco van Basten ( A. C. Milan 4 IFK Göteborg 0, 1992 ) and Simone Inzaghi ( S. S. Lazio 5 Olympique de Marseille 1, 2000 ) as the competition's top scorer in a single match ; this has since been surpassed by Lionel Messi ( Barcelona 7 Bayer Leverkusen 1, 2012 ).

Copenhagen also won the inaugural 2004 – 05 edition of the Royal League tournament, beating Swedish team IFK Göteborg on penalty shootout in the 2005 final.

Anders Svensson also became the first on Borås Arena to score a hat-trick in the derby against rivals IFK Göteborg, Elfsborg won with Anders 3 goals, 3-1.

Some good results were also reached by Újpest on International level, beating UEFA Cup title-holder IFK Göteborg, German top team 1.

Hysén's father Kurt also played for IFK Göteborg's B-Team.

He is also a supporter of IFK Norrköping and has financially supported their endeavours to return to Allsvenskan.

After the 2006 World Cup, he was invited by French Ligue 1 Championnat club Rennes for a trial but could not meet the deadline for the summer registration. He had trials also with Hamburger SV and Djurgarden in January 2006 following preseason in South Africa. In his first attempt to move outside Ghana he signed a pre-contract for IFK Mariehamn in Finland but with Kotoko asking for more money was never eligible to play for them. In the 2006 / 07 season he joined Israeli side Hapoel Nazareth and later on came close to sign for Danish side Randers FC but eventually signed in October 2007 a two year contract with Swedish Allsvenskan club Gefle IF under manager Per Olsson. When his contract ended and despite interest from 2nd division Bundesliga club he renew for 1 more year with Gefle IF. Finally the season 2012-2013 destiny brought him back in Stockholm and signed for historic club Djurgårdens IF.

Shortly before the end of the season, goalkeeper John Alvbåge announced that he was also leaving ( for IFK Gothenburg ).

Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna Norrköping, also known simply as IFK Norrköping, are a Swedish professional football club based in Norrköping.

The strongest rivalry is with IFK Göteborg, also from Gothenburg.

The club also competed in the 1980 Intertoto Cup against IFK Göteborg ( 2: 3, 1: 4 ) – a team that won the UEFA Cup just a year later ; B 93 Copenhagen ( 2: 0, 2: 3 ), and Austria Salzburg ( 4: 2, 2: 2 ) to finish second in the group.

The team reached the final in Svenska Cupen yet again and also this year against IFK Göteborg, however this year IFK won 5-4 on penalties after full time and extra time had ended 0-0.

There are also eight IFK clubs in Finland but they are organised separately.

Aside from the IFK members in Sweden and the separately organised IFK members in Finland, there did also exist IFK associations in Denmark and Norway.

He is also a supporter of the Swedish football team IFK Göteborg.

He played a total of 459 matches over 18 years for IFK Göteborg, and is regarded as one of the club's greatest players ever not only due to his work on the field, but also for his club spirit, leader qualities and work ethics.

IFK also competed in the IFK association competition, but lost to IFK Stockholm in the finals.

IFK Göteborg also won the local league in Gothenburg.

After reinforcing the team with several expensive players — including Thomas Wernerson and Stig Fredriksson — IFK had finished second in the league and reached the quarter-finals in the UEFA Cup as 1981 came to an end.

1984 started with a fight between the board and manager Jan Mak and it ended it with Jan Mak leaving the club, he was replaced by Stefan Lundin, the club reached 8th place and IFK Göteborg proved to strong in the play-off again.

However the club is not let down by this and comes in 2nd place in 1982 and this time they qualify IFK Norrköping, BK Häcken is able to 2 – 0 result home at Rambergsvallen and then get 1 – 1 away on Idrottsparken in Norrköping and the club reached Allsvenskan for the first time in the clubs history.

Dundee United reached the 1987 UEFA Cup Final, which they lost to IFK Gothenburg, but their fans won an award for their good behaviour from UEFA.

The 1932 – 33 season ended with " Svarte-Filip " retiring, having reached a total of 177 goals in 181 Allsvenskan games, and totalling 329 goals for IFK.

IFK reached the Allsvenskan qualifying stage in 1981 after winning Division 2 Norra in fine style by pipping Orebro SK to the top position.

In November 2007 the IFK reached an agreement, called Eskilstuna Elitfotboll, with local rivals Eskilstuna City FK.
