Monty Python's Eric Idle presented at the ceremony

# Sir Edward Ross: The audience chases Ewing through a television studio, interrupting a talk show ( presented by Idle ) in which an interviewer ( Cleese ), attempting to create a rapport, calls his subject – Sir Edward Ross ( Chapman ) – increasingly inappropriate nicknames: " Eddie ", " Eddie Baby ", " pussycat ", " angel drawers ", and " Frank "... claiming " President Nixon had a hedgehog named Frank.

For helping Monty Python have a hit with the latter 13 years after it first appeared on the soundtrack to The Life of Brian, Idle presented Mayo with a model bare foot, in the style of the animated version which used to end the opening titles to the TV show.

With help from Radio 1 breakfast show host Simon Mayo, who gave the song regular airplay and also used the chorus within a jingle, it became a hit, some 12 years after the song's original appearance in Life Of Brian, reaching number 3 in the UK charts and landing Idle a set on Top of the Pops in October 1991.

In 1978, Chapman co-wrote ( with Bernard McKenna ) and starred in The Odd Job alongside David Jason who had previously appeared on Do Not Adjust Your Set with Idle, Jones, and Palin.

Eric Idle and Terry Gilliam, while promoting Holy Grail in Amsterdam, had come up with a sketch in which Jesus ' cross was falling apart because of the idiotic carpenters who built it and he angrily tells them how to do it correctly.

Idle himself was said to have been uncomfortable with the character ; " It's essentially a pretty savage attack on rabid Zionism, suggesting it's rather akin to Nazism, which is a bit strong to take, but certainly a point of view ".

It mostly contains scenes from the movie with brief linking sections performed by Eric Idle and Graham Chapman.

The oratorio, called Not the Messiah ( He's a Very Naughty Boy ), was commissioned to be part of the festival called Luminato in Toronto, Ontario, in June 2007, and was written / scored by Idle and John Du Prez, who also worked with Idle on Spamalot.

Following The Frost Report the Palin / Jones team worked both as actors and writers on the show Twice a Fortnight with Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie and Jonathan Lynn, and the successful children's comedy show Do Not Adjust Your Set with Idle and David Jason.

Up until the 1990s, each of Gilliam's non-Python films was to feature at least one of his fellow Monty Python alumni ( particularly Palin, Cleese, and Idle ), and for his finished projects Gilliam has worked with the following actors more than once ( in order of first film appearance ):

As well as obviously giving rise to The Goodies, ISIRTA shows the roots of Monty Python very clearly, with Cleese, Chapman and Eric Idle all regular script contributors.

His mother had difficulty coping with a full-time job and bringing up a child, so when Idle was seven, she enrolled him into the Royal Wolverhampton School as a boarder.

This ran for two seasons from 1973 to 1974 and involved Idle performing sketches and links to records, with himself playing nearly all the multi-tracked parts.

On television, Idle created Rutland Weekend Television ( RWT ), a sketch show on BBC2, written by himself, with music by Neil Innes.

The band became a popular phenomenon, especially in the U. S. where Idle was appearing on Saturday Night Live – fans would send in Beatles LPs with their sleeves altered to show the Rutles.

In 1978, the Rutles ' mockumentary film All You Need Is Cash, a collaboration between Python members and Saturday Night Live, was aired on NBC television, as written by Idle, with music by Innes.

In recent years, Idle has worked with people who regard him as a huge inspiration, such as Trey Parker and Matt Stone in South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, in which he voiced Dr. Vosknocker.

More recently, Idle provided the voice of Merlin the magician in the DreamWorks animated film Shrek the Third ( 2007 ) with his former Python co-star John Cleese, who voiced King Harold.

The Eco automatic model will offer the Idle Stop and Go ( ISG ) option, which shuts the engine off when coming to a full stop.

Following that came More Than Idle Chatter, the six compositions of which focus on processings of the human voice using linear predictive coding, granular synthesis, and plucked string synthesis ; its three highlights are granular synth pieces called " Idle Chatter ," " Just_more_idle_chatter ," and " Notjustmoreidlechatter ," which look at the same thing from multiple perspectives.

On August 12th, 2012, for the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony, Eric Idle showed up after a failed human cannonball shot to sing.

* Idle stop-when stopped at traffic light, the engine shuts off automatically, then restarts immediately when the driver takes their foot off the brake, contributing to both greater fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

Cleese admitted that this was slightly unfair – when the Pythons voted on which sketches should appear in a show, “ he only got one vote ”, but says that Idle was an independent person and worked best on his own.

Robert M. Price points to a passage from " Idle Days on the Yann ", by Lord Dunsany, one of Lovecraft's favorite writers, as the source for the name Shub-Niggurath:

* McCartney, who had just released his own album, London Town, always answered, “ No comment .” According to Innes: “ He had a dinner at some awards thing at the same table as Eric one night and Eric said it was a little frosty .” Idle claimed McCartney changed his mind because his wife Linda thought it was funny.

Idle claims on the All You Need Is Cash DVD commentary track that Harrison and Starr at one point discussed starting a band with Innes and Idle, based on the Beatles ' and Rutles ' shared and imaginary histories.

Idle and Fataar issued one single as ' Dirk and Stig ' in 1979 ( Idle's only appearance on a Rutles-related disc ), but throughout the 1980s The Rutles did not exist.

The format of data on the tape is: 100 bytes with the value 0x16 ( SYN, Synchronous Idle ), one byte with the value 0x2A (*), the record identification number, the start address ( two characters for the low byte of address, two characters for the high byte ), the end address ( in the same format ), the actual data, one byte with the value 0x2F ("/" character ), a two-byte checksum, and two bytes with the value 0x04 ( EOT, End Of Transmission ).

In 1970 this new lineup recorded two singles for Liberty Records ; a cover of Mungo Jerry's skiffle hit " In the Summertime ", ( which reached number one in Argentina ) backed by an Idle Race original " Told You Twice ".

The nice one, Fidgit, as Palin ; the self-appointed leader, Randall, as Cleese ; the acerbic one, Strutter, as Eric Idle ; the quiet one, Og, as Graham Chapman ; the noisy rebel, Wally, as Terry Jones ; and the nasty, filth-loving one, Vermin, as Gilliam himself.

The film opens with two common thugs, Brian Hope ( Eric Idle ) and Charlie McManus ( Robbie Coltrane ) pulling off a bank heist with their mob, but their boss is killed and replaced with a new, rather brash one, Mr. " Case " Casey.

This satire on the Catholic Church's attitudes toward contraception and masturbation is followed by one on Protestants: Chapman plays the husband of the household next door, who lectures his wife on their church's tolerance toward having intercourse for fun, although his frustrated spouse ( Idle ) points out that they never do.

It inspired William Wordsworth's poem " Lines written a few miles above Tintern Abbey ", Alfred, Lord Tennyson's poem " Tears, Idle Tears ", Allen Ginsberg's " Wales Visitation ", and more than one painting by J. M. W. Turner.

During this period, Idle Race was also, as one member later termed it, a very " schizophrenic " band.

* " Four Yorkshiremen sketch " – Well-to-do Yorkshiremen ( Palin, Idle, Chapman and Jones ) try to top one another's tales of their austere beginnings, each story getting more exaggerated and absurd.

After a short distance, two channels are created by a weir, the southern one still called the River Maun, and both proceed eastwards, before turning northwards near Markham Moor roundabout on the A1 road, and joining again to form the River Idle.

# The Battle of Pearl Harbor: The silly-hating sergeant-major appears again, and introduces a group of women ( the Pythons in drag ) – led by one Rita Fairbanks ( Idle ) – who re-enact the attack on Pearl Harbor ( or rather, beat each other with their handbags while rolling in mud ).

" That's Death ", a song in the game sung by Eric Idle, was picked by PC Gamer as one of the best songs in PC gaming.
