LBC's history began in 1846 with the founding of the Banque d ' Épargne de la Cité et du District, or Montreal City and District Savings Bank, by Monseigneur Ignace Bourget and a group of 15 prominent people from Montreal.

Saint Gabriel Lalemant ( October 3, 1610, Paris, France – March 17, 1649, Saint Ignace, Ontario ) was a Jesuit missionary and one of the eight Canadian Martyrs.

An expert in the Ignace Paderewski piano technique, her musical pedagogy continued in the 1950s in Canada and New York, where she also married and had a son and daughter.

Lacombe returned east to be assistant priest at Berthier-en-Haut ( Berthierville ), Canada East, in 1851 – 52 but, since his wish to work in the West was unabated, Bishop Ignace Bourget of Montreal allowed him to go back to Red River in 1852 with Bishop Alexandre-Antonin Taché.

Ignace Bourget, the new ultramontane Archbishop, had recently returned from Europe, after successfully recruiting a number of priests for the new Province of Canada, including the introduction of the Jesuit order to Quebec.

The grave of Father Marquette was found to be located in downtown St. Ignace near the Ojibway Indian Museum on State Street
