This work is composed of three one-act operas: a horrific episode ( Il tabarro ), in the style of the Parisian Grand Guignol, a sentimental tragedy ( Suor Angelica ), and a comedy ( Gianni Schicchi ).

It was at the Metropolitan that Muzio created the role of Giorgetta in Il tabarro, in the world première of Puccini's triple-bill, Il trittico, on 14 December 1918.

On 26 September 1989, she sang all three soprano roles in Puccini's Trittico, Giorgetta in Il tabarro, Angelica in Suor Angelica and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi ( Met ).

At the opening night of the Met's 1994 season, she sang Nedda in Pagliacci opposite Luciano Pavarotti and Giorgetta in Il tabarro opposite Plácido Domingo.

Il trittico ( The Triptych ) is the title of a collection of three one-act operas, Il tabarro, Suor Angelica, and Gianni Schicchi, by Giacomo Puccini.

He reluctantly agreed that the two operas could be given in a programme with Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, but when he heard that Il tabarro had also been dropped, he wrote to his friend Sybil Seligman to say " I very much dislike Trittico being given in bits – I gave permission for two operas, and not one, in conjunction with the Russian Ballet.

In this production Il tabarro was moved to 1927, Suor Angelica was set in 1938, and Gianni Schicchi was moved from 1299 to 1959.

However, by 1916 Puccini had completed the one-act tragedy Il tabarro and, after considering various ideas, he began work the following year on the solemn, religious, all-female opera Suor Angelica.

The most complete example, which also has decor to match, is Charles Kraus ' Il gatto nero ( The Black Cat ).

He first came into wide public acclaim with the release of Notre prison est un royaume (" Our Prison is a Kingdom ") in 1948, and Il est minuit, docteur Schweitzer (" It is midnight, Doctor Schweitzer ") in 1950.

In his works, Cesbron tended to illustrate and describe relevant social topics such as: juvenile delinquency in Chiens perdus sans collier (" Lost Dogs Without Collars "), violence in Entre chiens et loups (" Between Dogs and Wolves "), euthanasia in Il est plus tard que tu ne penses (" It is Later than You Think "), and working priests in Les Saints vont en enfer (" Saints go to Hell ").

For example, in Il Barbiere there is an aria for the Count ( often omitted ) " Cessa di più resistere ", which Rossini used ( with minor changes ) in the cantata Le Nozze di Teti e di Peleo and in La Cenerentola ( the cabaletta for Angelina's rondo is almost unchanged ).

At this time he fell in love with a married daughter of King Robert of Naples ( known as Robert the Wise ) and she is immortalized as the character " Fiammetta " in many of Boccaccio's prose romances, particularly Il Filocolo ( 1338 ).

To help promote the film abroad, Caprino and Sandemose built a full scale replica of Il Tempo Gigante that is legal for public roads, but is usually exposited at Hunderfossen Familiepark.

The image is of a toy model of " Il Tempo Gigante ", the main race car featured in the movie.

Baldassare Castiglione, author of Il Cortegiano (" The Courtier "), wrote in 1528: "... The oldest known document in Maltese is " Il Cantilena " ( Maltese: Xidew il-Qada ) a poem from the 15th century written by Pietro Caxaro, and the first known Maltese dictionary was written by the French Knight Francois de Vion Thezan Court in 1640.

The Paris correspondent of the Rome newspaper ' Il Fanfulla ' wrote on the occasion: " photographers snapped in the same shot the greatest performer of Cenerentola and Semiramide, and what is left of the man who wrote these masterpieces ".

He has many nicknames, but the most commonly used are Silvio, Il Cavaliere ( The Knight ) for his knighthood to the Order of Merit for Labour, which he received in 1977 and Il Caimano ( The Caiman ) for the homonym film by Nanni Moretti, which is insipired by Berlusconi's life.

However, according to Galileo, the core of what came to be known as the scientific method in modern physical sciences is stated in his book Il Saggiatore to be the concept of a systematic, mathematical interpretation of experiments and empirical facts:

He has stated in interviews that Il mio nome è Nessuno ( My Name Is Nobody, 1973 ), in which he co-starred with the American Henry Fonda, is his personal favorite of all his films.

During this tour he wrote three new comic operas and he also collaborated with Giacomo Rust on one opera, Il Talismano ( The Talismand ).

Da Ponte would write his first opera libretto for Salieri, Il ricco d ' un giorno ( A Rich Man for a Day ) in 1784, it was not a success.

In November 2009 at the Teatro Salieri in Legnago occurred the first staging in modern times of his opera Il mondo alla rovescia, a co-production between the Fondazione Culturale Antonio Salieri and the Fondazione Arena di Verona for the Salieri Opera Festival.

The success of his comic opera, Il filosofo convinto in amore, performed at Potsdam in 1750, led to an appointment as court composer to Frederick the Great.

Sparking controversy in the press for its new style and its restless harmonic shifts into remote keys, La straniera ( 1828 ) was even more successful than Il pirata, and allowed Bellini to support himself solely by his opera commissions.

Il trovatore ( The Troubadour ) is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto by Salvadore Cammarano, based on the play El Trovador ( 1836 ) by Antonio García Gutiérrez.

The Barber of Seville, or The Futile Precaution ( Il barbiere di Siviglia, ossia L ' inutile precauzione ) is an opera buffa in two acts by Gioachino Rossini with a libretto by Cesare Sterbini.

Some sources also refer to an opera of 1909, completed but never performed, called Il matrimonio selvaggio, but no copy of this survives and Cilea himself made no mention of it in his volumes of memoirs (" Ricordi ").

The following works may be mentioned, among many others: Cajo Mario ; the three Biblical operas, Assalone, La giuditta, and Il sacrificio d ' Abramo ; Il convito di pietra ; and La ballerina amante, a comic opera first performed at Venice with enormous success.

Here, he produced his masterpiece, Il matrimonio segreto, which ranks among the greatest examples of opera buffa ( Verdi considered it the model opera buffa ).

Rossini's opera, now known as Il barbiere di Siviglia, is now acknowledged as Rossini's greatest work, while Paisiello's opera is only infrequently produced — a strange instance of poetical vengeance, since Paisiello himself had many years previously endeavoured to eclipse the fame of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi by resetting the libretto of his famous intermezzo, La serva padrona.

Die Entführung aus dem Serail ( K. 384 ; The Abduction from the Seraglio ; also known as Il Seraglio ) is an opera Singspiel in three acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The opera was first performed on October 29 in Prague under its full title of Il Dissoluto Punito ossia il Don Giovanni Dramma giocoso in due atti.

His opera seria, Il prigionier superbo, contained the two act buffa intermezzo, La Serva Padrona ( The Servant Mistress, 28 August 1733 ), which became a very popular work in its own right.

Among Pergolesi's other operatic works are his first opera La conversione e morte di San Guglielmo ( 1731 ), Lo frate ' nnamorato ( The monk in love, 1732, to a text in the Neapolitan language ), L ' Olimpiade ( 31 January 1735 ) and Il Flaminio ( 1735 ).

Visconti's love of opera is evident in the 1954 Senso, where the beginning of the film shows scenes from the fourth act of Il trovatore, which were filmed at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice.
