More explicit depictions were an important part of the work of erotic illustrators such as Édouard-Henri Avril, Franz von Bayros: Image: Franz von Bayros 003. jpg, Martin van Maële: File: Martin Van Maele-La Grande Danse macabre des vifs-33. jpg, Rojan, Gerda Wegener, Vala Moro, and Tom Poulton.

The story has been the subject of notable paintings by Agnolo Bronzino, Jean-Léon Gérôme, Honoré Daumier, Edward Burne-Jones ( four major works from 1868 – 1870, then again in larger versions from 1875 – 1878 with the title Pygmalion and the Image ), Auguste Rodin, Ernest Normand, Paul Delvaux, Francisco Goya, Franz von Stuck, François Boucher, and Thomas Rowlandson, among others.

Byrne was then replaced by Nicieza and Scott Lobdell, who would take over the majority of writing duties for the X-Men until Lee's own departure months later when he and several other popular artists ( including former X-title artists Liefeld, Portacio, and Marc Silvestri ) would leave Marvel to form Image Comics.

In response, eight creators announced the founding of Image Comics: illustrators Todd McFarlane ( known for his work on Spider-Man ), Jim Lee ( X-Men ), Rob Liefeld ( X-Force ), Marc Silvestri ( Wolverine ), Erik Larsen ( The Amazing Spider-Man ), Jim Valentino ( Guardians of the Galaxy ), and Whilce Portacio ( Uncanny X-Men ); and long-time Uncanny X-Men writer Chris Claremont.

In 1998, Bendis co-wrote and illustrated the Eliot Ness-starring Torso with Marc Andreyko, again for Image, and in 2000 he produced three issues of the autobiographical Fortune and Glory for Oni Comics.

Top Cow Productions ( TCP ) is an American comics publisher, a partner studio of Image Comics founded by Marc Silvestri in 1992.

During initial stages of Image Comics, Marc Silvestri shared a studio with Jim Lee, where he created his first creator-owned comic, Cyberforce, as part of Image's initial line-up.

Liefeld and several other popular young artists including Jim Lee, Todd McFarlane, Erik Larsen, Whilce Portacio, Jim Valentino and Marc Silvestri left Marvel in 1992 to form Image Comics.

In June 1996, Marc Silvestri temporarily left Image with his Top Cow imprint, allegedly because of disputes with the other partners over Liefeld's status in the company.
