Pope Honorius IV ( c. 1210 – 3 April 1287 ), born Giacomo Savelli, was Pope for two years, from 1285 to 1287.

The death of Peter III on 11 November 1285 changed the Sicilian situation in that his kingdoms were divided between his two Alfonso III of Aragon, who received the crown of Aragon, and James II of Aragon, who succeeded as King of Sicily.

In 1285, King Edward I of England passed the Statute of Winchester, which " constituted two constables in every hundred to prevent defaults in towns and highways ".

This was one of the earliest of the two thousand such charters that would be granted in England in the two centuries up to 1350, and may have recognised a market that was already taking place, as lawsuits of 1285 and 1308 both upheld the claim that the Birmingham market had been held without interruption since before the Norman conquest.

The principal sources of these narratives are the two great historical records compiled during the Koryo dynasty: Samguk sagi ( 1146 ; " Historical Record of the Three Kingdoms ") and Samguk yusa ( 1285 ; " Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms ").

Despite the apparently late date, Scottish textual historian Dauvit Broun has shown that Fordun's work in fact consists of two earlier pieces, Gesta Annalia I and Gesta Annalia II, the former written before April 1285 and covering the period from King Máel Coluim mac Donnchada ( Malcolm III, died 1093 ) to 2 February 1285.

In the original account by the Ghent monk Jean de Thilrode in 1294, the Jew was compelled to convert to Christianity, but Villani's account followed that of the later Chronicles of Saint-Denis ( 1285 – 1328 ) which told that the Jew was burned to death for his crime.
