In 1694, however, it was revived in favour of another Henry Herbert ( 1654 – 1709 ), son of Sir Henry Herbert ( 1595 – 1673 ), brother of the 1st Lord Herbert of Cherbury.

Sir Henry Herbert ( 1595 – 1673 ) was Master of the Revels to both King Charles I and King Charles II.

He succeeded Sir William Coventry as commissioner for the state treasury in 1669, and in 1673 was appointed a commissioner for the admiralty.

With their local ascendancy, and with Thirlestane Castle becoming even grander, John Maitland, 1st Duke of Lauderdale decided he would demolish the ancient kirk, and had a new church erected by Sir William Bruce in 1673 in the centre of the Royal Burgh.

Christopher Paston was Sir William's son and heir, and Christopher's grandson, William ( d. 1663 ), was created a baronet in 1642 ; being succeeded in the title by his son Robert ( 1631 – 1683 ), who was a member of parliament from 1661 to 1673, and was created earl of Yarmouth in 1679.

Sir Oliver St John ( pronounced " Sinjin ") ( c. 1598 – 31 December 1673 ), was an English judge and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1640 to 1653.

Trevor was a son of Sir John Trevor ( d. 1673 ) of Trevalyn Hall, Denbighshire.

He married third, Catherine Norcliffe, daughter of Sir Thomas Norcliffe, on 10 April 1673.

In 1674 discontented settlers and troops seized Richard Keigwin ( 1673 – 1674 ), the next acting governor ; it was only the lucky arrival of an East India Company fleet under the command of Captain William Basse that freed Keigwin.

On March 25, 1691, James Louis married Hedwig Elisabeth Amelia of Neuburg ( 1673 – 1722 ), the daughter of the Palatine elector Philip William.

Most of Provence remained strongly Catholic, with only one enclave of Protestants, the principality of Orange, Vaucluse, an enclave ruled by Prince William of the House of Orange-Nassau of the Netherlands, which was created in 1544 and was not incorporated into France until 1673.

In the East, on 1 September 1673 a Dutch East India Company fleet commanded by Cornelis van Quaelbergen defeated an East India Company squadron under William Basse off Masulipatam.

Arlington's former secretary, Pierre du Moulin, had after fleeing to the Republic begun to work for William ; in the summer of 1673 he exploited the fears of the English population by starting a propaganda campaign, using one of the Dutch main assets: the world's largest printing capacity.

In June 1673, Frederick William abandoned the Dutch alliance and concluded a subsidy treaty with France, who in return withdrew from Cleves.

In 1673, Louis XIV of France annexed all territory of the principality to the royal domain, as part of the war actions against the stadtholder William III of Orange — who later became King William III of England and King William II of Scotland.

His campaigning was not yet at an end, for in 1668 he was appointed first Field-Marshal of the States Army and in 1673 he was charged by stadtholder William III to command the forces in Friesland and Groningen, and to defend the eastern frontier of the Provinces, again against Van Galen.

Hedwig Elisabeth of Neuburg ( Hedwig Elisabeth Amelia ; 18 July 1673 – 10 August 1722 ) was the daughter of Philip William, Duke of Neuburg, Berg and Jülich, Elector Palatine of Neuburg, and his wife Landgravine Elisabeth Amalie of Hesse-Darmstadt.

In 1673 the estate was sold to Valentine Crome, after many changes of ownership at the end of the 18th century it belonged to William Matthew Birt who was Governor General of the Leeward Islands.
