Handel's decision to give a season of concerts in Dublin in the winter of 1741 – 42 arose from an invitation from the Duke of Devonshire, then serving as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.

Under the guidance of Kapellmeister Carlo Grua, the court hired such talents as Johann Stamitz, who is generally considered to be the founder of the Mannheim school, in 1741 / 42, and he became its director in 1750.

He was envoy to Prussia from 1741 – 42, to Russia from 1744 – 49 and to Vienna from 1752-64.

While he was away at war ( the War of Jenkins ' Ear, 1739 – 1743 ), Lawrence wrote to his father from Jamaica in May 1741, that, should he survive the war, he intended to make his home in the town of Fredericksburg, building a town home on one of the three lots he owned there.

It is estimated Lawrence received news of his father's plans in late 1741, while at Jamaica, and presumably wrote back instructing his father to call the new home " Mount Vernon " in honor of Captain Lawrence Washington's commanding officer, Vice Admiral Edward Vernon ( then regarded as the greatest military hero of the age in Britain ).

" Cibber was particularly admired by Handel, who wrote numerous parts especially for her including the contralto arias in his 1741 oratorio Messiah, the role of Micah in Samson, the role of Lichas in Hercules and the role of David in Saul among others.

It sold well and went into a fifth edition in 1741, the same year as Webster wrote a refutation of his own arguments, published under the pseudonym Andrew Freeport as The Draper Confuted.

He likewise continued his historical investigations in his Marmora Danica ( 3 vols., 1739 – 41 ; a collection of noteworthy epitaphs and ecclesiastical monuments ) and his uncritical Annales ecclesiæ Danicæ ( 4 vols., 1741 – 52 ); and also wrote a novel, Menoza ( 3 vols., 1742 – 43 ), a critique of the religious conditions of Denmark and other countries.
