Born in College Wynd in the Old Town of Edinburgh in 1771, the son of a solicitor, Scott survived a childhood bout of polio in 1773 that left him lame.

The ranged nature of their monopolies spurred them to found new settlements: Christianshaab ( 1734 ), Jakobshavn ( 1741 ), Frederikshaab ( 1742 ), Claushavn ( 1752 ), Fiskenæsset ( 1754 ), Ritenbenck and Egedesminde and Sukkertoppen ( 1755 ), Holsteinsborg ( 1756 ), Umanak ( 1758 ), Upernavik ( 1771 ), Godhavn ( 1773 ), and Julianehaab ( 1774 ).

In April 1771, Louis Stanislas's education was formally concluded, and his own independent household was established, which astounded contemporaries with its extravagance: in 1773, the number of servants reached 390.

John Penn ( 14 July 1729 – 9 February 1795 ) was the last governor of colonial Pennsylvania, serving in that office from 1763 to 1771 and from 1773 to 1776.

He died in England, September 17, 1783, leaving a widow and three sons: James Grant Forbes ( 1769 – 1826 ), John Murray Forbes ( 1771 – 1831 ), and Ralph Bennett Forbes ( 1773 – 1824 ).

His other plays are: Clementina ( Covent Garden, February 23, 1771 ), a blank verse tragedy, given out to be the work of a young American clergyman in order to escape the opposition of the Wilkites ; The School for Wives ( Drury Lane, December 11, 1773 ), a prose comedy given out as the work of Major ( afterwards Sir William ) Addington ; a two-act piece, The Romance of an Hour ( Covent Garden, December 2, 1774 ), borrowed from Marmontel's tale L ' amitié à l ' épreuve ; and an unsuccessful comedy, The Man of Reason ( Covent Garden, February 9, 1776 ).

However Poznań again suffered military occupation and conflict during the events involving the Bar Confederation, with Russian troops occupying the city in 1768 – 1769, followed by confederate troops in 1769 – 1770, Russians again in 1770 – 1771, Prussians in 1771 – 1773 ( withdrawing after the First Partition of Poland had been ratified ), and Russian troops again in 1773 – 1775.

From 1766 to 1773, he was a member of the colony's general assembly 1766-1773 and served as speaker in 1771.

Crawford had been a justice of the peace in Pennsylvania since 1771, first for Bedford County, then for Westmoreland County when it was established in 1773.

He had already succeeded his father as sixth Baronet of Henham in 1771 and been created Baron Rous, of Dennington in the County of Suffolk, in the Peerage of Great Britain in 1796, and was made Viscount Dunwich, in the County of Suffolk, at the same time he was given the earldom.

He obtained a Master's degree from the University of Leipzig in 1771 and was made Privatdozent in the same year.

He was made a Lord of the Admiralty under the North administration, holding office until he was made Governor of Greenwich Hospital, by way of retirement, in January 1771.
