In 1787, James Madison wrote Thomas Jefferson in France for background information on constitutional government to use at the Constitutional Convention.

Visiting in 1787, the geologist James Hutton found his first example of an unconformity there and this spot is one of the most famous places in the study of geology.

James Madison drafted the Virginia Plan in 1787 and the Bill of Rights in 1789.

After Ann Lee and James Whittaker died, Joseph Meacham ( 1742 – 1796 ) became the leader of the Shakers in 1787.

Their children were born on his family's plantation near Timber Ridge Church, including Sam Houston on March 2, 1793, the fifth of nine children and the fifth son born: Children-Paxton 1783, Robert 1787, James 1788, John Paxton 1790 ( first clerk of Izard County, Arkansas 1819-1838 ), Samuel 1793, William 1794, Isabella 1796, Mary Blair 1797, and Elizabeth Ann 1800.

Bligh was appointed Commanding Lieutenant of Bounty on 16 August 1787, at the age of 32, after a career that included a tour as sailing master of James Cook's HMS Resolution during Cook's third and final voyage ( 1776 – 1779 ).

In 1787 Thomas Jefferson, who was then ambassador to France, wrote to James Madison proposing that the U. S. Constitution, then under consideration by the States, be amended to include " trial by jury in all matters of fact triable by the laws of the land opposed the law of admiralty and not by the laws of Nations not by the law of admiralty ".

James Caldwell, the first known landowner in what was to become Doddridge County, owned 20, 000 acres in the area sometime prior to 1787.

This land was part of the larger purchase and referred to as the Horse Neck Tract until February 17, 1787, when the town congregation voted to change the name to Caldwell, in honor of the Reverend James Caldwell who pushed for their organization ’ s creation.

A grant of land on which Monaca now stands was granted by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by patent, bearing the date September 5, 1787, to Colonel Ephraim Blaine ( 1741 – 1804 ), who served in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, from 1778 to 1782 as commissary-general of the Northern Department, and paternal great-grandfather of James G. Blaine.

On December 3, 1787, James Rumsey conducted a successful trial of his new invention, the steamboat, in the Potomac at the north end of Princess Street.

From 1787 to 1790, Charles James Fox attempted to convince the House of Commons to pass a law granting Dissenters full citizenship rights.

Three sons from Stephen's first marriage ( m. Anna Stent at St Leonard, Shoreditch 1783 ) survived him, and achieved prominence in law, abolition and the civil service: Sir James Stephen ( 1789 – 1859 ), Henry John Stephen ( 1787 – 1864 ), and George Stephen ( 1794 – 1879 ).

James Madison made this recommendation in a letter to Thomas Jefferson of 24 October 1787, which summarized the thesis of The Federalist # 10: " Divide et impera, the reprobated axiom of tyranny, is under certain qualifications, the only policy, by which a republic can be administered on just principles.

James Madison was also influenced by the Declaration while drafting the Bill of Rights ( completed September 1787, approved 1789 ), as was the Marquis de Lafayette in voting the French Revolution's Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen ( 1789 ).

Some leaders of the new republic — notably James Madison, with whom he lodged at Mrs. Mary House's prominent boarding establishment in 1787 and 1788 — were cognizant of Thornton's abolitionist activities.

Formal education began when local Quaker, James Turner, left money in his 1787 will to establish Blue Hill School near Chapel and Providence Roads.

With the help of historians Jean-Marc Berliere and Simon Kitson, McCall learned that she is the great-granddaughter of onetime Prefect of Police Célestin Hennion ( 1862 – 1915 ), and the great great great-granddaughter, on her father's side, of James Thomas Bedborough ( 1787 – 1860 ), a stonemason, councillor, Mayor, property developer, and entrepreneur, who worked on Windsor Castle and Upton Park in Slough.

This was published at Oxford in 1695 ; it was reprinted with additions by the author's brother, John Tanner, in 1744 ; and was reprinted again with further additions by James Nasmith in 1787.

The plan was drafted by James Madison while he waited for a quorum to assemble at the Constitutional Convention of 1787.

Also following her to America was her brother, William Lee ( 1740 – 1784 ); Nancy Lee, her niece ; James Whittaker ( 1751 – 1787 ), who had been brought up by Mother Ann and was probably related to her ; John Hocknell ( 1723 – 1799 ), who provided the funds for the trip ; his son, Richard ; and James Shepherd and Mary Partington.

His father died when he was just three years old, and he was adopted by his uncle, Theodore Frelinghuysen ( 1787 – 1862 ).

A second daughter, Sophie Hélène Béatrice de France, was born on 9 July 1786, but died on 19 June 1787.

As a result, the king dismissed Calonne on 8 April 1787 ; Vergennes died on 13 February.

On 15 November 1787, in Vienna, Gluck suffered another stroke and died a few days later.

After Lucy died of whooping cough, in 1787 Jefferson sent for his surviving daughter, nine-year-old Maria ( Polly ) Jefferson, to live with him.

His only son, born in 1746, died of alcoholism in 1787.

General Thomas was born in 1787 and died in 1879.

The town is probably named after Joseph Berger, a hunter, or Pierre Berger, a St. Louis, Missouri merchant who died in 1787.

The opening of the Assembly was delayed several times to accommodate him after he had grown ill from overwork, but on 13 February 1787, he died.

Arthur died on January 1, 1787 at the age of 44 and was buried in the family tomb in the Gardens at Middleton Place.

Wolfe Tone's only surviving son was William Theobald Wolfe Tone ( both the eldest two children died prematurely: Maria, b. 1786, Dublin, d. 1803, Paris, France, of consumption i. e. tuberculosis and Richard, b 1787 / 1789, died in infancy.

In 1783 he married Helen Bannatyne, who died in 1787, leaving an only son, Colonel Matthew Stewart.

Besides a daughter ( Gustavine, 1787 – 1789 ) who died in infancy and the eldest son Auguste Louis ( 1790 – 1827 ), they had two other children — a son Albert ( 1792 – 1813 ), and a daughter Albertine ( 1797 – 1838 ), who afterwards married Victor, 3rd duc de Broglie.

Gage died at Portland Place on 2 April 1787, and was buried in the family plot at Firle.

In 1787 this company merged with the rival North West Company. Mackenzie's mother died when he was at the age of 10 and he and his father went to NYC to live with his uncle.

When Margaret died in 1787, he became depressed and died less than four months later in Alexandria, reportedly of a " broken heart ".
