* St David's Cathedral, new west front ( 1789 – 1791 ) completely remodelled by Sir George Gilbert Scott ( 1862 ).

The town is named after explorer Sir Braden Hirstein, who was accompanied by Sir David Magana ), and was established as a small fishing colony in 1789.

His elder son James Erskine Wemyss ( 1789 – 1854 ) was a Rear-Admiral in the Royal Navy and the grandfather of Admiral of the Fleet Rosslyn Erskine-Wemyss, 1st Baron Wester Wemyss ( 12 April 1864 – 24 May 1933 ), known as Sir Rosslyn Wemyss between 1916 and 1919.

Alexander Montgomerie's The Cherrie and the Slae in 1700, shortly over a decade later an edition of poems by Sir David Lindsay, nine printings of Allan Ramsay's The Gentle shepherd between 1743 and 1793, and an edition of Robert Burns ' poetry in 1787, the same year as the Edinburgh edition, followed by reprints in 1789, 1793 and 1800.

The main beneficiaries of his will were his nephew, Peregrine Palmer Fuller Palmer Acland ( 1789 – 1871 ) and General Sir Augustus Elliot Fuller ( 1777 – 1857 ) who was John Fuller's first cousin once removed.

Lieutenant General Sir Henry Pottinger, 1st Baronet, GCB, PC ( Chinese: 砵甸乍 ; 3 October 1789 – 18 March 1856 ), was an Anglo-Irish soldier and colonial administrator who became the first Governor of Hong Kong.

General James St Clair-Erskine, 2nd Earl of Rosslyn GCB, PC ( 6 February 1762 – 18 January 1837 ), known as Sir James Erskine, Bt, between 1765 and 1789 and as Sir James St Clair-Erskine, Bt, between 1789 and 1805, was a Scottish soldier, politician, and Acting Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Scotland, on behalf of King George IV.

The latter was a descendant of Sir John Gore, Lord Mayor of London in 1624, whose elder brother Sir Paul Gore, 1st Baronet, was the ancestor of the Earls of Arran ( 1762 creation ), the Barons Annaly ( 1766 and 1789 creations ) and the Barons Harlech.

The second creation came in 1789 when Sir John Browne, 7th Baronet, of The Neale, was created Baron Kilmaine, of The Neale in the County of Mayo.

According to Encyclopædia Britannica, " the term is usually applied to attacks on Jews in the Russian Empire in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the first extensive pogroms followed the assassination of Tsar Alexander II in 1881 ," and the Wiley-Blackwell Dictionary of Modern European History Since 1789 states that pogroms " were antisemitic disturbances that periodically occurred within the tsarist empire.

In 1789, Livingston joined the Jeffersonian Republicans ( later known as the Democratic-Republicans ), in opposition to his former colleagues John Jay and Alexander Hamilton who founded the Federalists.

* Alexander MacKenzie ( 1764 – 1820 ) – Scottish-Canadian explorer who in 1789, looking for the Northwest Passage, followed the river now named after him to the Arctic Ocean and then in 1793 crossed the Rockies and reached the Pacific in 1793, thus beating Lewis and Clark by 12 years.

The Mackenzie ( previously Disappointment ) River was named after Alexander Mackenzie, who travelled the river in the hope it would lead to the Pacific Ocean, but instead reached its mouth on the Arctic Ocean on 14 July 1789.

Randolph was appointed as the first U. S. Attorney General in September 1789, maintaining precarious neutrality in the feud between Thomas Jefferson ( of whom Randolph was a second cousin ) and Alexander Hamilton.

He was elected as Tory Member of Parliament for Westminster from 1784 to 1788 and from 1790 to 1796, and was Member for Reigate between 1789 and 1790, serving with his younger brother Alexander under Pitt the Younger.

In 1789, the North West Company had commissioned Alexander Mackenzie to find a navigable river route to the Pacific Ocean.

The North Carolina Constitution of 1789 limited the post of governor to three one-year terms within a span of six years ; Williams sought re-election to the post in 1805, but was defeated by Nathaniel Alexander.
