In the autumn of 1795, three years after King Louis XVI of France was deposed, royalist and counter-revolutionaries organised an armed uprising.

The uprising failed and resulted in the Third Partition in 1795, in which Poland lost all its remaining territories and the Polish – Lithuanian Commonwealth ceased to exist as a state.
