During the resulting Nullification Crisis in late 1832 and early 1833, as the Senate's president pro tempore ( the leader of the Senate in the absence of the Vice President ), White coordinated negotiations in the interim between the resignation of Vice President John C. Calhoun ( December 28, 1832 ) and the swearing in of Vice President Martin Van Buren ( March 4, 1833 ).

Vice President John R. Mott recalled that in 1833 the Society sent $ 3, 000 to Dr. Elijah Coleman Bridgman, first U. S. Protestant missionary to China, to print scriptures in Chinese.

On November 15, 1833, President Andrew Jackson appointed Butler Attorney General, an office he held until 1838.

However, in 1833, Missouri settlers brutally expelled the Latter Day Saints from Jackson County, and the church was unable via a paramilitary expedition to recover the land.

Jackson proceeded to destroy the Bank as a financial and political force by removing its federal deposits, and in 1833, federal revenue was diverted into selected private banks by executive order, ending the regulatory role of the Second Bank of the United States.

Following the election of 1832, Johnson continued to campaign for the Vice Presidency which would be available in 1836 ; he was endorsed by the New York labor leader Ely Moore on March 13, 1833, nine days after Jackson and Van Buren were inaugurated.

Additional townships were laid out as follows: Jackson in 1829 ; Liberty and Marion in December 1830 ; Big Lick, Blanchard and Van Buren in 1831 ; Washington, Union, and Eagle in 1832 ; Cass and Portage in 1833 ; Pleasant in 1835 ; Orange in 1836 ; Madison in 1840, and finally Allen in 1850.

Vigilantes in the public and private sector used force to drive individual Saints from Jackson to nearby counties within Missouri ; eventually, Latter Day Saints were given until the end of November 6, 1833 to leave the county en masse.

On November 23, 1833, the few remaining Mormon residents were ordered to leave Jackson County.

The county was organized December 29, 1836 as a haven for the Mormons, who had been previously driven from Jackson County in November 1833 and had been refugees in adjacent Clay County ever since.
