In his 1859 The Origin of Species, Charles Darwin recalls seeing coloured drawings of zebra-donkey hybrids, and mentions " Lord Moreton's famous hybrid from a chesnut mare and male quagga ..." Charles Rennie Mackintosh ( 7 June 1868 – 10 December 1928 ) was a Scottish architect, designer, watercolourist and artist.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh was born at 70 Parson Street, Glasgow on 7 June 1868, the fourth of twelve children and second son of William and Margaret McIntosh.
