In 1875, Carte became the business manager of the Royalty Theatre, under the direction of his client, the popular singing actress Madame Selina Dolaro.

Steiner was manager of Vienna's Theater an der Wien from 1869 to 1875 with Marie Geistinger, a Viennese actress, and from 1875 to 1880 on his own.

S., later signing four Americans: first-baseman / manager George " Juice " Latham, pitcher Fred Goldsmith of New Haven, Connecticut ( believed by many to be the co-inventor of the curveball along with Candy Cummings of Ware, Massachusetts ), catcher Phil Powers and infielder / outfielder Joe Hornung ( nicknamed " Dutchy " and " Ubbo Ubbo ") from Carthage, New York.

In 1875, Richard D ' Oyly Carte, who was then managing the Royalty Theatre for Selina Dolaro, brought Gilbert and Sullivan together to write their second show, a one-act opera entitled Trial by Jury.

Three years later, in 1875, talent agent and producer Richard D ' Oyly Carte was managing the Royalty Theatre, and he needed a short opera to be played as an afterpiece to Jacques Offenbach's La Périchole.

Coles died in 1875 at his home in Charlottetown Royalty.

Carte managed the first tour of Trial by Jury, which stopped at the Theatre Royal in Dublin, Ireland, in September 1875.

The name Devil's Tower originated in 1875 during an expedition led by Col. Richard Irving Dodge when his interpreter misinterpreted the name to mean Bad God's Tower.
