* 1906 – The all black infantrymen of the U. S. Army's 25th Infantry Regiment are accused of killing a white bartender and wounding a white police officer in Brownsville, Texas, despite exculpatory evidence ; all are later dishonorably discharged.

Robert E. Howard at about five years old ( circa 1911 ). Howard was born January 22, 1906 in Peaster, Texas, the only son of a traveling country physician, Dr. Isaac Mordecai Howard, and his wife, Hester Jane Ervin Howard.

He served in the Ohio Senate ( 1899 – 1903 ), as the 28th Lieutenant Governor of Ohio ( 1904 – 1906 ) and as a U. S. Senator ( 1915 – 1921 ).

In 1906, President Roosevelt sent troops to restore order in Cuba during the revolt led by General Enrique Loynaz del Castillo, and Taft temporarily became the Civil Governor of Cuba, personally negotiating with Castillo for a peaceful end to the revolt.
