* Sree Mandira ( Oriya: ଶ ୍ ର ୀ ମନ ୍ ଦ ି ର ) is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Jagannath ( Krishna ) and located in the coastal town of Puri in the state of Orissa, India.

The four day long ( Saptami to Dashami ) Durga Puja is the biggest annual festival in Bengal, Assam, Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand and Nepal, where it is known as Dashain.

Salty lassi is usually flavoured with ground, roasted cumin and red chilies ; this salty variation may also use buttermilk, and in India is interchangeably called ghol ( Bengal ), mattha ( North India ), majjiga ( Andhra Pradesh ), moru ( Tamil Nadu and Kerala ), Dahi paani ( Orissa ), tak ( Maharashtra ), or chaas ( Gujarat ).

Dances like " Odra Magadhi ", which after decades long debate, has been traced to present day Mithila, Orissa region's dance form of Odissi ( Orissi ), indicate influence of dances in cultural interactions between different regions.

* Old Oriya ( 7th century-1200 ): The origin of the Oriya literature can be traced to " Bauddha Gana O Doha ", otherwise known as Charyapada written by the Buddhist Siddhas of Orissa.

In Orissa there is a popular saying that " Machha khaaiba Ilishii, chakiri kariba polisi ", means eating Ilish and getting a job in Police department are of equal status.

"- pande ", such as " Deshpande ". In Orissa the Brahmins use the surname " Panda " पण ् डI.

It is also used in Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Orissa and Chattisgarh.

When Orissa became a big centre of worship of Lord Shiva, it is only natural that dance would be used as a form of worship, since Lord Shiva was a master dancer himself.

Bombay mix is the name used in the United Kingdom and Ireland for a traditional Indian snack known as chiwda, chevdo, bhuso ( if made without potato ), chevda ( च ि वड ा) or chivdo ( च ि वड ो) in India, or Chanāchura () in Orissa and chanachur ( চ া ন া চ ু র ) in Bengal.

The Tamil calendar is based on the classical Hindu solar calendar also used in Assam, Bengal, Kerala, Manipur, Nepal, Orissa, Rajasthan and the Punjab.

Although white sugar is most commonly used, adding gur ( jaggery ) as the sweetener is an interesting variation prepared in Orissa.

This was a unit of Indian natives from the Orissa area and initially it was used to maintain order in the region, before moving to Northern Bengal in 1823 when it became known as the Rungpoor Light Infantry.
