Macedonian and Bulgarian are sharply divergent from the remaining South Slavic languages, Serbo-Croatian and Slovene, and indeed all other Slavic languages, in that they don't use noun cases ( except for the vocative, and apart from some traces of once productive inflections still found scattered throughout the languages ).

To assist in the direction of this huge, multi-national undertaking, the Russian director had four interpreters permanently at his side: one each for English, Italian, French and Serbo-Croatian.

Bosnian is notable amongst the three varieties of Serbo-Croatian for having an eclectic assortment of Arabic, Turkish and Persian loanwords, largely due to the language's interaction with those cultures through Islamic ties.

Endnote 7 of Chapter 5 of the 9 / 11 Commission Report states that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed " says bojinka is not Serbo-Croatian for ' big bang ', as has been widely reported, but rather a nonsense word he adopted after hearing it on the front lines in Afghanistan.

As opposed to other Slavic dialect subgroups, West South Slavic idioms have largely retained the Proto-Slavic system of free and mobile tonal accent ( including the dialect used for basis of codification of modern standard Slovene, as well as Neoštokavian used for the basis of standard varieties of Serbo-Croatian: Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian ), though the discrepancy between codified norm and actually spoken speech may significantly vary.

The mountain Fruška Gora (" Frankish monuntain " in Serbo-Croatian ) got its name after the old Serbo-Croatian name for Frankish people-Fruzi ( Frug = Frank, Fruzi = Franks, fruški = Frankish ).

The Matica Srpska Society was one of the initiators of the Novi Sad agreement on the Serbo-Croatian language ( 1954 ), and it led the action for making the unique orthography of the language ( 1960 ).

The Anti-Fascist Council of the People's Liberation of Yugoslavia, known more commonly by its Yugoslav abbreviation AVNOJ, ( Serbo-Croatian: Antifašističko Vijeće Narodnog Oslobođenja Jugoslavije, AVNOJ ) was the political umbrella organization for the national liberation councils of the Yugoslav resistance against the Axis occupation during WW2.

Zabranjeno Pušenje ( Serbo-Croatian for No Smoking ) is a Yugoslav rock band from Bosnia and Herzegovina, closely associated with the New Primitivism cultural movement.

Orthographies with a high grapheme-to-phoneme correspondence ( excluding exceptions due to loan words and assimilation ) include those of Finnish, Albanian, Georgian, Turkish ( apart from ğ and various palatal and vowel allophones ), Serbo-Croatian ( Serbian, Croatian and Bosnian ), Bulgarian, Macedonian ( if the apostrophe is counted, though slight inconsistencies may be found ), Eastern Armenian ( apart from o, v ), Basque ( apart from palatalized l, n ), Haitian Creole, Castilian Spanish ( apart from h, x, b / v, and sometimes k, c, g, j, z ), Czech ( apart from ě, ů, y, ý ), Polish ( apart from ó, h, rz ), Romanian ( apart from distinguishing semivowels from vowels ), Ukrainian ( mainly phonemic with some other historical / morphological rules, as well as palatalization ), Swahili ( missing aspirated consonants, which do not occur in all varieties and are sparsely used anyways ), Mongolian ( apart from letters representing multiple sounds depending on front or back vowels, the soft and hard sign, silent letters to indicate / ŋ / from / n / and voiced versus voiceless consonants ) Azerbaijani ( apart from k ), and Kazakh ( apart from и, у, х, щ, ю ).

The Basque language differentiates between laminal and apical in the alveolar region, as does Serbo-Croatian, while Polish and Mandarin make the distinction with postalveolar consonants.

Most of the population () speaks German ( 477, 093 or 87. 1 %) as their first language, Italian is the second most common ( 17, 847 or 3. 3 %) and Serbo-Croatian is the third ( 10, 645 or 1. 9 %).

In Germany, this game is called " Mensch ärgere dich nicht " which means " Man, don't get irritated ", and has equivalent names in Dutch, Serbo-Croatian, Bulgarian, Czech and Slovak.

The next closest relative is Serbo-Croatian ( and its standard variants Serbian, Montenegrin, Bosnian, and Croatian ).

Serbo-Croatian or Serbo-Croat, less commonly Bosnian / Croatian / Montenegrin / Serbian ( BCMS ), is a South Slavic language and the primary language of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, and Serbia.

However, some languages also allow other sounds to form the nucleus of a syllable, such as the syllabic l in the English word table ( the stroke under the l indicates that it is syllabic ; the dot separates syllables ), or the r in Serbo-Croatian vrt " garden ".

In some languages which distinguish between masculine and feminine plural pronouns, such as French or Serbo-Croatian, the masculine is again used as default.

This is the case in a few Romance languages and in Serbo-Croatian, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Filipino and Turkish.

The Serbian language is considered a standardized register of Serbo-Croatian, and is an official language in Serbia ( also in the disputed Kosovo ) and Bosnia-Herzegovina, and is spoken by a majority in Montenegro.
