The practice of the Australian states — for example, New South Wales and Victoria — has been, when legislating to repeal some imperial statutes so far as they still applied in Australia, to provide that imperial statutes concerning the royal succession remain in force.

The first intercolonial match had been played between Victoria and South Australia on 2 August 1879.

Although clubs from other states were at times invited, the final was almost always between the premiers from the two strongest state competitions of the time — South Australia and Victoria — and the majority of matches were played in Adelaide at the request of the SAFA / SAFL.

The carnival included teams representing Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania, Western Australia and New Zealand.

This instantly broke Victoria's stranglehold over state titles and Western Australia and South Australia began to win many of their games against Victoria.

Locations include the Cyclopean Islands east off Sicily and near Trentino in northern Italy ; Victoria in Australia ; Kerguelen Island in the Indian Ocean ; in the Lake Superior copper district of Michigan, Bergen Hill, New Jersey, Golden, Colorado, and at Searles Lake, California in the United States ; and at Cape Blomidon, Nova Scotia and Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec in Canada ; and in Iceland.

They played 19 games of Australian rules football, against prominent clubs in Victoria and South Australia, winning six and drawing one of these ( see Australian rules football in England ).

In the then Victorian Colony ( now State of Victoria in Australia ), the ( Royal ) Victorian Bowling Association was formed in 1880 and The Scottish Bowling Association was established in 1892, although there had been a failed attempt in 1848 by 200 Scottish clubs.

A large number of bunyip sightings occurred during the 1840s and 1850s, particularly in the southeastern colonies of Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia, as European settlers extended their reach.

Currently there is only one borough in Australia, the Borough of Queenscliffe in Victoria, although there have been more in the past.

Unlike reforms in the United Kingdom, New South Wales, Tasmania, Victoria, South Australia and soon to be Western Australia, this law does not have a retrospective effect, which is unpopular with some advocates of the reform.

French explorer René Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle is believed to have crossed the county on his way westward from Victoria County ; and while La Bahia was a common route, no evidence of any settlements exist before the Anglo homesteaders.

Brolgas are widespread and often abundant in north and north-east Australia, especially north-east Queensland, and are common as far south as Victoria.

Eucalyptus regnans, known variously by the common names mountain ash, Victorian ash, swamp gum, Tasmanian oak or stringy gum, is a species of Eucalyptus native to southeastern Australia, in Tasmania and Victoria.

It has many common names, including Peewit, Peewee, Mudlark ( in Victoria ), and Murray Magpie.

Queen Victoria, however, soon made it clear that she desired a memorial ' in the common sense of the word '.

The western grey kangaroo ( Macropus fuliginosus ) is a large and very common kangaroo or macropod, found across almost the entire southern part of Australia, from just south of Shark Bay to coastal South Australia, western Victoria, and the entire Murray – Darling Basin in New South Wales and Queensland.

The common copperhead reaches 1. 75 m ( 5 ft 9 in ) in length and lives in southern Victoria into Tasmania.

In common with the Victoria Cross, a distinction peculiar to these two premier awards for bravery, in undress uniform or on occasions when the medal ribbon alone is worn, a miniature replica of the cross is affixed to the centre of the ribbon.

For reasons not altogether clear, it is less common in Victoria.

Musk Ducks are moderately common through the Murray-Darling and Cooper Creek basins, and in the wetter, fertile areas in the south of the continent: the south-west corner of Western Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania.

Public housing in Australia was common in the larger cities, particularly in Melbourne ( by the Housing Commission of Victoria ) where a huge number of hi-rise housing commission flats were built between the 1950s and 1970s by successive governments as part of an urban renewal program.

It is common in southwestern cities such as Burnaby, New Westminster, Port Alberni, Vancouver and Victoria.
