The statue is a copy of the ancient Winged Victory of Samothrace.

The " SC " ( for Sporting Club ) is inspired by Asclepius ' rod representing health and fitness, a Greek statue called the Winged Victory of Samothrace – alluding to strength and movement, and to the Spanish architecture of Kansas City's Country Club Plaza.

The Société des Amis du Louvre donated the Pietà of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, and in 1863 an expedition uncovered the sculpture Winged Victory of Samothrace in the Aegean Sea.

Select sculptures such as Winged Victory of Samothrace and the Venus de Milo were sent to the Château de Valençay.

The Louvre holds masterpieces from the Hellenistic era, including The Winged Victory of Samothrace ( 190 BC ) and the Venus de Milo, symbolic of classical art.

During the years of World War II, the statue was sheltered safely in the Château de Valençay along with the Winged Victory of Samothrace and Michelangelo's Slaves.

The Winged Victory of Samothrace, one of the best-known ancient Greek statues.

The island's most famous site is the Sanctuary of the Great Gods, Greek Hieron ton Megalon Theon ; the most famous artifact of which is the 2. 5-metre marble statue of Nike, now known as the Winged Victory of Samothrace, dating from about 190 BC.

Crain first received critical acclaim when she starred in Winged Victory ( 1944 ).

In 1944, she played a small but noticeable role as an airman's wife in the Twentieth Century Fox film version of the U. S. Army Air Forces ' hit play Winged Victory.

One of the most famous monuments of the Paseo is El Ángel de la Independencia – a tall column with a gilded statue of a Winged Victory ( that bears resemblance with an angel, therefore its common name ) on its top and many marble statues on its base depicting the heroes of the Mexican War of Independence, built to commemorate the centennial of Mexico's independence in 1910.

He and Eaker collaborated on three books promoting airpower: This Flying Game ( 1936, reprinted 1943 ), Winged Victory ( 1941 ), and Army Flyer ( 1942 ).

Sopwith Camel. Type of First World War aircraft flown by VM Yeates. Winged Victory is a 1934 novel by English World War I fighter pilot Victor Maslin Yeates that is widely regarded as a classic description of aerial combat and the futility of war.

Yeates wrote in the flyleaf of Williamson's copy of Winged Victory that: " I started the book in April 1933 in Colindale Hospital.

The title, " Winged Victory ", was not VM Yeates ' choice-it was forced on him by his original publisher, who wanted the book to appear more patriotic and exciting.

In the autumn of 1939, the Winged Victory was removed from her perch in anticipation of the outbreak of war.

Outside Marrickville Town Hall is a World War I war memorial, featuring a Winged Victory figure.

When the Winged Monkeys are sent by the Witch of the West against the group, they throw the Tin Woodman from a great height, damaging him badly.
