In a passage from the Posterior Analytics, he says that we can know the meaning of a made-up name ( he gives the example ' goat stag '), without knowing what he calls the ' essential nature ' of the thing that the name would denote, if there were such a thing.

James of Venice, who probably spent some years in Constantinople, translated Aristotle's Posterior Analytics from Greek into Latin in the mid-twelfth century, thus making the complete Aristotelian logical corpus, the Organon, available in Latin for the first time.

The most productive of these translators was Gerard of Cremona, ( c. 1114 – 1187 ), who translated 87 books, which included many of the works of Aristotle such as his Posterior Analytics, Physics, On the Heavens, On Generation and Corruption, and Meteorology.

In the Analytics then, Prior Analytics is the first theoretical part dealing with the science of deduction and the Posterior Analytics is the second demonstratively practical part.

Prior Analytics gives an account of deductions in general narrowed down to three basic syllogisms while Posterior Analytics deals with demonstration.

In the mid-twelfth century, James of Venice translated into Latin the Posterior Analytics from Greek manuscripts found in Constantinople.

Grosseteste wrote an influential commentary on the Posterior Analytics.

Aristotle's Prior Analytics deals with the nature and validity of inferences or syllogisms, while his Posterior Analytics deals with proof or demonstration and with demonstrative science.

The oldest surviving writing to explicitly consider the rules by which reason operates are the works of the Greek philosopher Aristotle, especially Prior Analysis and Posterior Analysis.

In the Posterior Analytics and Nicomachean Ethics he identified five intellectual virtues as the five ways the soul arrives at truth by affirmation or denial.

Later in 1932, Lhermitte, Levy, and Trelles discovered an association between peduncular hallucinosis and “ pigmentary degeneration of the periaqueductal gray and the degeneration of the occulomotor nucleus .” Posterior thalamic lesions were also found to be linked to peduncular hallucinosis by De Morsier.
