In Steven Moffat's short story " What I Did on My Christmas Holidays by Sally Sparrow " ( the basis for the Tenth Doctor episode " Blink "), the Ninth Doctor has a rooftop sword fight with two Sontarans in 21st century Istanbul, defeating them with the help of spy Sally Sparrow, apparently before the events of " Rose " in his personal timeline.

This was referenced on-screen in the episode " Blink " ( 2007 ), when the character Detective Inspector Shipton says the TARDIS " isn't a real box.

In the Star Trek Voyager episode " Blink of an Eye ", during which Voyager is trapped in orbit above a planet experiencing a rapid passage of time, the first attempt shown by the people to contact Voyager was made during the planet's medieval period by a Lord Protector.

They also worked together on occasion, as in the 1994 feature film thriller Blink and the 1998 drama Chicago Cab ; they also appeared together in an episode of Desperate Housewives.

At the conclusion of that episode, that surviving Dalek self-destructs, leaving the Doctor believing that he was the sole survivor of the Time War.

They were able to get away with innuendo that would have been unheard of a mere ten years before — in one episode, Sandy refers to Julian and his skill at the piano as: " a miracle of dexterity at the cottage upright "; innocuous in itself, unless one knows that a ' cottage ' was the polari term for a public toilet where men met for anonymous sexual encounters and ' upright ' referred to an erection.

After Sly announces he now knows how to tame a shrew, he proudly walks back into the tavern to confront the hostess, but almost immediately, he is flung back out, in exactly the same way as the episode began.
