Although originally considered a subspecies of A. ramidus, in 2004 anthropologists Yohannes Haile-Selassie, Gen Suwa, and Tim D. White published an article elevating A. kadabba to species level on the basis of newly-discovered teeth from Ethiopia.

Two other subspecies are described from West and Central Africa, but taxonomic clarification is required.

There are twenty-one recognized subspecies, from 3 groups.

Currently, the domestic dog is listed as a subspecies of Canis lupus, C. l. familiaris, and the dingo ( also considered a domestic dog ) as C. l. dingo, provisionally a separate subspecies from C. l. familiaris ; the red wolf, eastern Canadian wolf, and Indian wolf are recognized as subspecies.

Although three subspecies have been described, these are arbitrary selections from a cline and are not generally accepted as valid.

** The Stewart Island Southern Brown Kiwi, Apteryx australis lawryi, is a subspecies of Tokoeka from Stewart Island.

However, scientific consensus is that there are at least two subspecies of the common carp, one from Western Eurasia ( Cyprinus carpio carpio ) and another from East Asia ( Cyprinus carpio haematopterus ).

The penguin, which usually grows to an average of in height and in length ( though specific measurements vary by subspecies ), is found on the coastlines of southern Australia and New Zealand, with possible records from Chile.

Some analyses indicate that the Somali Ostrich may be better considered a full species apart from the Common Ostrich, but most taxonomists consider it to be a subspecies.

Ostriches usually weigh from, Ostriches of the East African race ( S. c. massaicus ) averaged in males and in females, while the nominate subspecies was found to average in unsexed adults.

Larson ( 1997 ) studied the morphological variation in the jaguar and showed there is clinal north – south variation, but also the differentiation within the supposed subspecies is larger than that between them, and thus does not warrant subspecies subdivision.

* H. a. amphibius – ( the nominate subspecies ) which stretched from Egypt, where they are now extinct, south up the Nile River to Tanzania and Mozambique.

* H. r. rustica, the nominate European subspecies, breeds in Europe and Asia, as far north as the Arctic Circle, south to North Africa, the Middle East and Sikkim, and east to the Yenisei River.

* Falco peregrinus peregrinus, the nominate ( first-named ) subspecies, described by Tunstall in 1771, breeds over much of temperate Eurasia between the tundra in the north and the Pyrenees, Mediterranean region and Alpide belt in the south.

However, discoveries of the Africanized bees in southern Louisiana indicate this subspecies has penetrated this barrier, In October 2010, a 73-year-old man was killed by a swarm of Africanized honey bees while clearing brush on his south Georgia property, as determined by Georgia's Department of Agriculture.

They intergrade broadly where their ranges meet, from southeastern England south through France and Spain, and many individuals are not identifiable to subspecies.

* G. tibicen terraereginae, found from Cape York and the Gulf Country southwards across Queensland to the coast between Halifax Bay in the north and south to the Mary River, and central and western New South Wales and into northern South Australia, is a small to medium-sized subspecies.

The nominate subspecies A. a. albifrons breeds in the far north of Europe and Asia, and winters further south and west in Europe.

There are five subspecies, with complex variation in body size and bill size and pattern ; generally, size increases from north to south and from west to east.

In the typical subspecies deltoides ( Vermont south to northern Florida and west to about Michigan ), the leaves are broad and triangular, 7 – 15 cm across at the base.

Further west ( Minnesota south to eastern Texas ), the subspecies monilifera ( plains cottonwood ; syn.

Birds of the nominate subspecies from the northernmost breeding populations in Finland and Russia, beyond the range of Great Crested Grebe, have a longer and more slender bill than those further south, reflecting a greater proportion of fish in the diet where their main competitor is absent.

Black-necked Grebes of the nominate subspecies P. n. nigricollis in the cooler temperate regions of the Old World also winter further south, with many European birds moving to the Mediterranean area.

The nominate subspecies is found in China from the Yangtze valley south to Hainan and Taiwan.

The nominate subspecies is found in the northeastern part of peninsular India south to Hyderabad.

There are two subspecies: the nominate garrulus, which breeds from in north Africa from Morocco east to Tunisia, southwest and south-central Europe and Asia Minor east through northwest Iran to southwest Siberia ; and semenowi, which breeds in Iraq and Iran ( except northwest ) east to Kashmir and north to Turkmenistan, south Kazakhstan and northwest China ( west Xinjiang ).

In the past, it was treated as a complex of several subspecies ; apart from the nominate subspecies breeding in northern Asia, two to four other subspecies were accepted, breeding much further south at high altitudes in the Sino-Himalayan mountain system from the western Himalaya east to western China ( Yunnan north to Gansu and Hebei ).

** Saratoga pupfish, Cyprinodon nevadensis nevadensis ( subspecies ) Found at Saratoga Springs at the south end of Death Valley.

The Great Tit was formerly treated as ranging from Britain to Japan and south to the islands of Indonesia, with 36 described subspecies ascribed to four main species groups.

The major group had 13 subspecies across Europe, temperate Asia and north Africa, the minor group's nine subspecies occurred from southeast Russia and Japan into northern southeast Asia and the 11 subspecies in the cinereus group were found from Iran across south Asia to Indonesia.

The carabao ( Filipino: kalabaw ; ) or Bubalus bubalis carabanesis is a subspecies of the domesticated water buffalo ( Bubalus bubalis ) found in the Philippines, Guam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and various parts of Southeast Asia.

Along Sumatra, Java, Borneo and the Philippines subspecies hypoleucus ( sometimes considered a full species ) is found while wahgiensis is restricted to New Guinea.

All three Green-winged Teal subspecies occur in the northern hemisphere during summer and in winter extend to northern South America, central Africa, southern India, Burma, and the Philippines.

The subspecies groups are: P. p. porphyrio in the Mediterranean, P. p. madagascariensis in Africa, P. p. poliocephalus in tropical Asia, P. p. melanotus in much of Australasia, P. p. indicus in Indonesia and P. p. pulverulentis in the Philippines.

In the Philippines ( where they are known as " tamsi ") the males of some subspecies have an orange band on the chest, in Wallacea and northern New Guinea some subspecies have most of the underparts blackish, and in southern China and adjacent parts of Vietnam most of the underparts of the male are greyish-white.

Taylor ’ s honor are still recognized as valid: Lizards: Brachymeles boulengeri taylori ( Negros Short-legged Skink, from Philippines ), Gerrhonotus liocephalus taylori ( Taylor ’ s Alligator Lizard, from Chihuahua, Mexico ), Lipinia pulchella taylori ( Negros Beautiful Lipinia, a skink from the Philippines ), Sceloporus occidentalis taylori ( Sierra Fence Lizard, from California ), Sphenomorphus assatus taylori ( Taylor ’ s Forest Skink, from southern Mexico ), Uta stansburiana taylori ( Taylor ’ s Side-blotched Lizard, from Mexico ); Snakes: Coniophanes picevittis taylori ( Taylor ’ s Black-striped Snake, from Mexico ), Cyclocorus nuchalis taylori ( Taylor ’ s Southern Triangle-spotted Snake, from southern Philippines ), Ficimia publia taylori * ( Taylor ’ s Blotched Hooknose Snake, from Yucatán, Mexico ), Lampropeltis triangulum taylori ( Utah Milksnake, from USA ), Micrurus browni taylori ( Acapulco Coralsnake, from Guerrero, Mexico ).

There are several subspecies ( from Burma, Borneo, Indonesia, Nias, and the Philippines ).
