She sang with the legendary late Queen of Gospel Dr. Albertina Walker, Dorothy Norwood, Inez Andrews, Delores Washington and James Cleveland while in the Caravans.

At the end of 1963 the label launched the gospel subsidiary label Song Bird Records which featured Inez Andrews.

Significant artists on this record label included the powerful contralto Inez Andrews ( formerly of The Caravans ), The Gospelettes with Liz Dargan ( formerly of Andrews ’ group The Andrewettes ), mixed vocal group The Kansas City Melodyaires ( later known as Mildred Clark & The Melodyaires ), The Jackson Southernaires and their younger siblings The Williams Brothers, Reverend Oris Mays and the Christian Harmonizers, all of whom with the exception of, Christian Harmonizers, continued with the label into the 1970s.

The group reached its peak popularity during the 1950s and 1960s, launching the careers of a number of artists, including: Delores Washington, Albertina Walker, Bessie Griffin, Cassietta George, Dorothy Norwood, Inez Andrews, Shirley Caesar, Josephine Howard, Rev.

At their height in the late 1950s the Caravans combined the energetic, agile alto of Shirley Caesar on songs such as " Swing Low, Sweet Chariot " with the powerful contralto of Inez Andrews on " Mary Don't You Weep, the dramatic soprano of Delores Washington, and the frenetic piano style from Eddie Williams, a friend of Washington.

During this time, former members, some of which hadn't recorded with the group since the mid 1950s, returned for recording sessions including Inez Andrews in 1966, and Rev.

Notable reunion concerts include a 1988 Stellar Awards performance with Albertina Walker, Inez Andrews, Shirley Caesar, Delores Washington and Rev.
