In the early 1960s she became synonymous with Miss Jane Marple in a series of four films loosely based on the novels of Agatha Christie.

His knowledge of literature and films was unusually extensive, and in his interviews, he named Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, Francis Bacon, George Balanchine, Balthus, Louis Feuillade, Ronald Firbank, Lady Murasaki Shikibu, Robert Musil, Yasujiro Ozu, Anthony Trollope, and Johannes Vermeer as some of his favorite artists.

Other films included Walk on the Wild Side ( 1962 ) with Barbara Stanwyck, Jane Fonda and Capucine ; the film adaptation of Tennessee Williams's Summer and Smoke ( 1961 ) with Geraldine Page, and Darling ( 1965 ) with Julie Christie and Dirk Bogarde.

The film features numerous others, such as comedians John Candy and Imogene Coca, model Christie Brinkley, and Jane Krakowski, in smaller roles.

Gardiner was married three times: first to Rosetta Jane Gardiner in 1912, then to Violet McEwen in 1917 and finally to Isabella ( Scott ) Christie in 1944.

However, Agatha Christie first described a village of that name prior to the introduction of Jane Marple, in the Hercule Poirot novel The Mystery of the Blue Train, in which it was home to that book's protagonist Katherine Grey.

Three stories of the stories in the collection, The Girl in the Train, Jane in Search of a Job and The Manhood of Edward Robinson were adapted for by Thames Television in 1982 as part of their ten-part programme The Agatha Christie Hour, a series of one-off plays from short stories by the writer.

Her husband, the 4th Duke, married secondly, at the Kirk of Fochabers, ( probably Bellie ), in July 1820, Jane Jean Christie, who was a native of Fochabers and was then aged about 40.

Gina Bellman, who plays Jane in the British series, made a cameo appearance in the first episode.

In this sketch, actors Gina Riley ( Bea Smith ), Jane Turner ( Lizzie Birdsworth ) and Magda Szubanski ( Doreen ), along with Marg Downey ( Joan Ferguson ) acted out memorable scenes from the series with a comedic twist.

The series was created by, and is written by Jane Turner and Gina Riley who play the title characters: a suburban mother and daughter with a dysfunctional relationship.

Mr. Squiggle was helped by a human female assistant in all of the show's incarnations ; they included Miss Gina ( Gina Curtis ), Miss Pat ( Pat Lovell ), Miss Jane ( Jane Fennell ), and later series featured Roxanne ( Roxanne Kimmorley ) and Rebecca ( Rebecca Hetherington, Hetherington's daughter ).

The series, which brought together the talents of some of the country's best performers, including Vizard, Peter Moon, Marg Downey, Jane Turner, Gina Riley and Ernie Dingo, and was Australia's highest rating comedy series.
