In the Antiquities of the Jews ( Book 20, Chapter 9, 1 ) Josephus refers to the stoning of " James the brother of Jesus " by order of Ananus ben Ananus, a Herodian-era High Priest who died c. 68 AD.

Wittgenstein's conclusion in Proposition 7 echoes the Old Testament words of Jesus ben Sirach ( ישוע בן סירא, Yešwaʿ ven Siraʾ ): What is too sublime for you, do not seek ; do not reach into things that are hidden from you.

The name Yeshua is also used in Israeli Hebrew historical texts to refer to other Joshuas recorded in Greek texts such as Jesus ben Ananias and Jesus ben Sira.

Among the best-known Jewish ossuaries of this period are: an ossuary inscribed ' Simon the Temple builder ' in the collection of the Israel Museum, another incribed ' Elisheba wife of Tarfon ', one inscribed ' Yehohanan ben Hagkol ' that contained an iron nail in a heel bone suggesting crucifixion, another inscribed ' James son of Joseph, brother of Jesus ', the authenticity of which is suspect, and ten ossuaries recovered from the Talpiot Tomb in 1980, several of which are reported to have names from the New Testament.

It is not known when these short works were collected and transferred to a single scroll, but the first extra-biblical evidence we have for the Twelve as a collection is c. 190 BCE in the writings of Jesus ben Sirach, and evidence from the Dead Sea Scrolls suggests that the modern order was established by 150 BCE.

Asher ben Jehiel also asserted that the Yeshu of the Talmud is unrelated to the Christian Jesus.

The only classical Jewish commentator to equate Yeshu with Jesus was the Rishon ( early commentator ) Abraham Ibn Daud who held the view that the Jesus of Christianity had been derived from the figure of Yeshu the student of ben Perachiah.

Other Rishonim, namely Rabbi Jacob ben Meir ( Rabbeinu Tam ), Nahmanides, and Jehiel ben Joseph of Paris explicitly repudiated the equation of the Yeshu of the Talmud and Jesus.

Jehiel Heilprin held that Yeshu the student of Yehoshua ben Perachiah was not Jesus.

During the Disputation of Paris, 1240, and Disputation of Barcelona 1263, references to Jesus in the Talmud became a pretext for Christian persecution and Jehiel ben Joseph in Paris, Nahmanides in Barcelona, defended the Jewish community from Christian inquisitors by denying that the " Yeshu " passages had anything to do with Christianity.

The Alphabet of Jesus ben Sirach ( Alphabetum Siracidis, Othijoth ben Sira ) is an anonymous medieval text attributed to Jesus ben Sirach, the author of the Wisdom of Sirach.

He was struck blind, but after three days his sight was restored by Ananias of Damascus, and Paul began to preach that Jesus of Nazareth is the Jewish Messiah and the Son of God.

Shortly after the Death ( Nisan 14 or 15 ) and Resurrection and Great Commission and Ascension of Jesus, the Jerusalem church was founded as the first Christian church with about 120 Jews and Jewish Proselytes (), followed by Pentecost ( Sivan 6 ), the Ananias and Sapphira incident, Pharisee Gamaliel's defense of the Apostles (), the stoning of Saint Stephen ( see also Persecution of Christians ) and the subsequent dispersal of the church () which led to the baptism of Simon Magus in Samaria (), and also an Ethiopian eunuch ().

Flavius Josephus in Jewish Antiquities book 20, chapter 2 records the story of King Izates who having been persuaded by a Jewish merchant named Ananias ( claimed by Robert Eisenman in James the Brother of Jesus to be Paul of Tarsus ) to embrace the Jewish religion, decided to get circumcised so as to follow Jewish law.

Ananias (;, same as Hebrew חנניה, Hananiah, " favoured of the "), was a disciple of Jesus at Damascus mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles in the Bible, which describes how he was sent by Jesus to restore the sight of " Saul, of Tarsus " ( known later as Paul the Apostle ) and provide him with additional instruction in the way of the Lord.

Jesus later spoke to Ananias in a vision, and told him to go to the " street which is called Straight ", and ask " in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus ".

The letter of Auxentius, a 4th-century Arian bishop of Milan, regarding the missionary Ulfilas, gives the clearest picture of Arian beliefs on the nature of the Trinity: God the Father (" unbegotten "), always existing, was separate from the lesser Jesus Christ (" only-begotten "), born before time began and creator of the world.
