For 1968 Austrian Jochen Rindt replaced Hulme, who had left to join McLaren.

Brabham raced alongside his team mate Jochen Rindt during the 1968 season.

Belgian driver Jacky Ickx being the first crowned driver. Beside, Jochen Rindt won both F2 1967 Trophées de France and British championship, while team mate Alan Rees winning the Autocar contest.

Winners included Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart ( twice ), and Jochen Rindt.

The Lotus had a reputation of being very fragile and dangerous at that time, especially with the new aerodynamic aids which caused similar crashes of Hill and Jochen Rindt at the 1969 Spanish Grand Prix.

Championships were clinched by the Brabham team in 1966, Jochen Rindt ( posthumously ) and Lotus in 1970, Lotus in 1973, Emerson Fittipaldi and McLaren in 1974, Niki Lauda and Ferrari in 1976, and Lauda in 1977.

The stars of the era all visited the Tasman Series, Jim Clark, John Surtees, Timmy Mayer, Phil Hill, Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, Jochen Rindt, Pedro Rodriguez, Piers Courage, leading teams from Cooper, Lotus, Lola, BRM, even the four wheel drive Ferguson P99 and finally, Ferrari, racing against the local stars, Brabham, McLaren, Denny Hulme, Chris Amon, Frank Gardner, Frank Matich, Leo Geoghegan and Kevin Bartlett.

As reported in Sporting Motorist " Gerry Marshall really gets to grips with his motor cars and flings them about with such gay abandon that people expect him to fly off the road – he has been named the Jochen Rindt of club racing, also the Mr. Dunlop Benefit ( by commentator Barry Simons ) but he rarely does and more often than not wins ".

The overall win went to Jochen Rindt driving an Alfa Romeo GTA ( an Under 2-Liter entry ), with Bob Tullius ( driving a Dodge Dart ) taking second overall and first in the Over 2-Liter class.

Born and raised in Woking, England, Dennis began working for the Cooper Formula One team in 1966 at the age of 18 where he worked alongside lead driver Jochen Rindt .< ref name =" mclarenbio ">

His father also noted that " he was very upset when Jochen Rindt was killed, too ".

The small engine proved just as competitive as the larger version ; and Jim Clark took four victories in 1968, followed by one win for Piers Courage and brace of victories for Jochen Rindt in 1969.

Hill's new BRM teammate, Jackie Stewart, who had broken Clark's string of five consecutive victories with his first Grand Prix win at Monza three weeks before, was running at The Glen for the first time, as was Austrian Jochen Rindt.

John Surtees, still recovering from a crash at Mosport Park led for 14 laps from Jackie Stewart, Jochen Rindt and Denny Hulme until his differential broke, handing the lead to Stewart.

Surtees took a 42-second victory over Austrian driver Jochen Rindt driving a Cooper T81.

Brabham's win put him ten points clear in the championship chase over Austrian Cooper racer Jochen Rindt with Hulme and Ferrari's Lorenzo Bandini a point further back.

Watson led for the first 10 laps until Hunt moved ahead and pulled away, with Mario Andretti's Lotus third, but soon the other McLaren of Jochen Mass took the place.

With eight minutes of the session left, Villeneuve came over the rise after the first chicane and found Jochen Mass travelling much more slowly through the left-handed bend before the Terlamenbocht corner.

Entering the first corner, sure enough, Ricardo Zunino, Andretti, Jochen Mass and Jean-Pierre Jarier all made contact under braking.
