In 1871, producer John Hollingshead brought Gilbert and Sullivan together to produce a Christmas entertainment, Thespis, at his Gaiety Theatre, a large West End house.

The new Viceroy Gilbert Minto and the new Secretary of State for India John Morley consulted with Congress leader Gopal Krishna Gokhale.

Captain John Charles Marshall together with Thomas Gilbert came to the islands in 1788.

The story is often told that in 1755, Nathaniel Gilbert, while convalescing, read a treatise of John Wesley, " An Appeal to men of Reason and Religion " sent to him by his brother Francis.

As a result of having read this book Gilbert, two years later, journeyed to England with three of his slaves and there in at drawing room meeting arranged in Wandsworth on 15 January 1759, met the preacher John Wesley.

The only exceptions were ballad operas, such as John Gay's The Beggar's Opera ( 1728 ), musical burlesques, European operettas, and late Victorian era light operas, notably the Savoy Operas of W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, all of which types of musical entertainments frequently spoofed operatic conventions.

Behaviourists such as John B. Watson and B. F. Skinner have proposed that perception acts largely as a process between a stimulus and a response but have noted that Gilbert Ryle's " ghost in the machine of the brain " still seems to exist.

American Impressionist painters noted for this style during this era included, Guy Rose, Robert William Wood, Mary Denil Morgan, John Gamble, and Arthur Hill Gilbert.

The play was first heard on film in The Hollywood Revue of 1929, in which John Gilbert recited the balcony scene opposite Norma Shearer.

Some appear only once or twice in a ballad: Will Stutely in Robin Hood Rescuing Will Stutly and Robin Hood and Little John ; David of Doncaster in Robin Hood and the Golden Arrow ; Gilbert with the White Hand in A Gest of Robyn Hode ; and Arthur a Bland in Robin Hood and the Tanner.

The 1891 founding professors included Robert Allardice in mathematics, Douglas Houghton Campbell in botany, Charles Henry Gilbert in zoology, George Elliott Howard in history, Oliver Peebles Jenkins in physiology and histology, Charles David Marx in civil engineering, Fernando Sanford in physics and John Maxson Stillman in chemistry.

A celebrated medieval series of commentaries was that composed by the Cistercians Bernard of Clairvaux, Gilbert of Hoilandia, and John of Ford over the course of several decades, each continuing the work of the previous.

John Millner ’ s memoirs – Compendious Journal ( 1733 ) – is more specific, recording 12, 087 of Villeroi ’ s army were killed or wounded, with another 9, 729 taken prisoner.

As well as stories from the Old Testament, John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress and Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin, she grew up with Aesop ’ s Fables, the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen, Charles Kingsley's The Water Babies, the folk tales and mythology of Scotland, the German Romantics, Shakespeare, and the romances of Sir Walter Scott.

Her Journal reveals her growing sophistication as a critic as well as the influence of her father ’ s friend the artist Sir John Everett Millais who recognised Beatrix ’ s talent of observation.

Bliss ’ s concern about semantics finds an early referent in John Locke, whose Essay Concerning Human Understanding prevented people from those " vague and insignificant forms of speech " that may give the impression of being deep learning.

Bob Jones, Sr. argued that if members of Graham ’ s campaign executive committee had rejected major tenets of orthodox Christianity, such as the virgin birth and the deity of Christ, then Graham had violated 2 John 9-11, which prohibits receiving in fellowship those who do “ not abide in the teaching of Christ .” In the 1960s, Graham further irritated fundamentalists by gaining the endorsement of Cardinal Richard Cushing for his Boston campaign and accepting honorary degrees from two Roman Catholic colleges.

All kings supported King John of England ’ s defiance of Pope Innocent III ninety years after the Concordat of Worms in the matter concerning Stephen Langton.

Larry Gragg highlights Mather ’ s cloudy thinking and confusion between sympathy for the possessed, and the boundlessness of spectral evidence when Mather stated, “ the devil have sometimes represented the shapes of persons not only innocent, but also the very virtuous .” And writing in the early 1980s, John Demos seemed to consider Mather a moderating influence on the trials.

Due to deadlines, some real-world events have rendered some of Trudeau ’ s comics unusable, such as a 1973 series featuring John Ehrlichman, a 1989 series set in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China, a 1993 series involving Zoë Baird, and a 2005 series involving Harriet Miers.
