Keith Johnstone ’ s work at the Royal Court Theatre in the late 1950s is seen as an important framework for contemporary improvisational theatre today.

Heavily influenced by the teaching methods of Anthony Stirling, Johnstone set out to rediscover the imaginative world of childhood, the origins of creativity and spontaneity, and the ability to tell stories in an attempt to shift what he saw as the ‘ pretentiousness ’ of theatre to something much less dependent on intellect.

Status is central to Johnstone ’ s theories on what constitutes ‘ ordinary conversation ’.

Johnstone ’ s exercises for developing spontaneity and the overall the improving of improvisation skills are used in almost every teaching institute for improvisational theatre.

The book was rejected by publishers in Sweden prompting an open letter in 2003 defending Johnstone's book ( and her right to publish ) which was signed by, among others, Noam Chomsky, Arundhati Roy, Tariq Ali and John Pilger: " We regard Diana Johnstone ’ s Fools ’ Crusade as an outstanding work, dissenting from the mainstream view but doing so by an appeal to fact and reason, in a great tradition.

All the girls left as Fairlea Girls ’ School ( later known as Heep Yunn School ), under the superintendence of Miss Johnstone, was opened to them in 1892.

With the original name ‘ Bissei ’, an early theory in Reverend J. B. Johnstone ’ s book The Place-Names of England and Wales states that it may have meant ‘ Byssa ’ s Isle ’, and that it started life as a lake-village surrounded by marshes, streams and lakes.

Later, the Shire won promotion as Division Two runners-up to St. Johnstone in 1962 – 63, but as in the 1930s the club ’ s tenure in the top flight was brief and relegation followed in 1963 – 64.

MSP Alex Johnstone wrote " Clearly, the Declaration of Arbroath is a literary work of outstanding universal significance by any stretch of the imagination " In 2008, the Campaign Group Chairman, Councillor Jim Millar launched a public petition to reinforce the bid explaining " We're simply asking people to, local people especially, to sign up to the campaign to have the Declaration of Arbroath and Arbroath Abbey recognised by the United Nations.

One of the most widespread is the international organization Theatresports, which was founded by Keith Johnstone, an English director who wrote what many consider to be the seminal work on the relationship between status, story telling and improvisational acting, Impro.

Many people, with the day off work, took the opportunity to travel the short distance of by canal between Paisley and Johnstone.

Parliament dictated that due to the failure to complete the canal past Johnstone, that work on the railway should be started at the Ardrossan harbour end.

After a rocky start freelancing, he began landing regular work at the Johnstone and Cushing agency, which specialized in comic-book styled advertising.

Examples of his earlier portraiture include a bust of Mrs Johnstone of Baldovie and a three-quarter-length of Dr James Hutton, works which, if somewhat timid and tentative in handling and not as confident as his later work, nevertheless have delicacy and character.

Mrs. Johnstone continues to work for Mrs Lyons, but Mrs Lyons soon feels that Mrs Johnstone is paying too much attention to the child that she has given up to her.

Christopher Johnstone produced an introductory book on Martin 1974, and in 1975 the art critic William Feaver was author of an extensively illustrated work on Martin's life and works.

Novick left DC for the Johnstone and Cushing advertising agency in the 1960s, but was unhappy in advertising and was lured back to DC by Kanigher with a freelance contract, a guarantee of steady work and certain perks ( which was at the time unprecedented ).

Referring to his encounter with Johnstone in the 1970 European Cup semi-final, in what was billed at the time as the football " Battle of Britain ", Terry Cooper of Leeds United described Johnstone as " my nightmare ", such was the quality of his opponent's play.

The first arrival of European people came in 1872 when survivors of the shipwreck, the " Maria " arrived on the coastal areas surrounding what is now the Johnstone River.

Also of note is the debut on record of the backing vocal combination of Johnstone, Murray and Olsson, who first added what would soon become their " trademark " sound to " Rocket Man ".

Johnstone was the outstanding performer in what was an exceptional Rangers side, scoring thirty-eight goals over the course of the campaign and picking up the Scottish Football Writers ' Player of the Year accolade.

Gopalan's hockey career was helped by Robert Summerhayes who was to hockey in Madras what Johnstone was to cricket.

2006 also saw the departure of several key personal, including legendary strength and conditioner Billy Johnstone – to the Gold Coast Titans – and assistant coach Neil Henry accepted a head coaching position with the Canberra Raiders.

Paul Cook's efforts saw him linked to the vacant position at SPL side St Johnstone, but failed to agree terms with them.

With this album, he saw the addition of three former members of the Elton John band: lyricist Bernie Taupin, guitarist Davey Johnstone and bassist Dee Murray.

In the 1970s, Canadian Keith Johnstone invented Theatresports that has become a staple of modern improvisational comedy.

It has two MSPs in the devolved Scottish Parliament, Alison Johnstone, representing Lothian, and Patrick Harvie, for Glasgow.

The town also has a footballing tradition, having produced some player of note in the Scottish game including Bobby Johnstone of Hibernian, Bob Mercer of Heart of Midlothian, Sandy McMahon of Celtic Selkirk F. C.

The central role of Mrs. Johnstone has been played by, among others, Sarah Haye, Barbara Dickson, Stephanie Lawrence, Clodagh Rodgers, Kiki Dee, Lyn Paul, Siobhan McCarthy, four of the Nolan sisters ( Linda, Bernie, Denise and Maureen ), Melanie Chisholm ( making her West End debut and receiving an Olivier nomination in 2009 ), Niki Evans and Amy Robbins.

The musical has toured in the UK intermittently since August 1995, when it opened at the Birmingham Hippadrome with Helen Reddy as Mrs Johnstone.

Mrs Johnstone has the twins ( Mickey and Edward ), but then regrets having agreed to give one away.

Since 2005, his co-host has been Suzyn Waldman ; past announcing partners include: Jay Johnstone ( 1989 – 1990 ), Joe Angel ( 1991 ), Michael Kay ( 1992 – 2001 ), and Charley Steiner ( 2002 – 2004 ).

As the Surprise sails home they stop at Madeira, and there Stephen finds that Diana has left him for a Mr. Johnstone from America ( called " Mr. Johnson " in later books ).

More recently, Muriel Johnstone has written some elegant piano strathspeys.

The old St. Cuthbert's building has been used to house several schools ( including Johnstone High School ) while their own premises are being refurbished.

He has also appeared as Marty Johnstone, a New Zealand drug dealer who was originally the leader of the Mr Asia drug syndicate in the hit series Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities.

Enckelman has represented Finland and previously played for TPS Turku, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Cardiff City and St. Johnstone.

He has previously played for Leeds United, Reading, Crewe Alexandra, Heart of Midlothian, Leicester City, Aberdeen, Colchester United and St. Johnstone.

Johnstone has subsequently invented further improvisation formats including " Gorilla Theatre ", " Micetro " or " Maestro ", and " Life Game " that has been seen at the National Theatre courtesy of Improbable Theatre, and on U. S. cable television.

Johnstone Hall is a dormitory at Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina that has housed several generations of Clemson undergraduates.

Uddingston has been home to several successful footballers: Jimmy Johnstone and George McCluskey both of Celtic ; Tommy McQueen who played for Aberdeen, West Ham, Clyde and Falkirk ; Iain Munro, a football player, coach and manager ; Lindsay Hamilton, who was goalkeeper with Stenhousemuir, Rangers, St Johnstone and Dunfermline, and John Robertson who most notably played at Nottingham Forest.

" In its short existence, the Foundation has hosted a Great Spaces Open House at the Stadium that was attended by over a hundred people, two Legends Baseball Camps led by former major leaguers Steve Trout, Rick Honeycutt, Willie Wilson, and Jay Johnstone, and on December 14, 2009, Engel Stadium was approved as a site on the National Register of Historic Places.
