Richard Bowman Myers ( born March 1, 1942 ) is a retired four-star general in the United States Air Force and served as the 16th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

His Air Force career included operational command and leadership positions in a variety of Air Force and Joint assignments.

From July 1996 to July 1997 he served as Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon ; and from November 1993 to June 1996 General Myers was Commander of U. S. Forces Japan and 5th Air Force at Yokota Air Base, Japan.

His Air Force career included operational command and leadership positions in a variety of Air Force and Joint assignments.

In 2001, Clark was considered to be on the " short list " of choices for Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff ; the eventual pick was Air Force General Richard Myers.

The National Guard Bureau is headed by the Chief of the National Guard Bureau ( CNGB ), who is a four-star general in the Army or Air Force and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The chief is either an Air Force or an Army 4-star general ( flag ) officer, is the senior uniformed National Guard officer, and is a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

A possible new JCM successor called the Joint Air to Ground Missile ( JAGM ) is under consideration.

DIA is headquartered at the Defense Intelligence Analysis Center ( DIAC ) on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D. C., with major operational activities at the Pentagon, at each Unified Combatant Command, United States Defense Attache Offices worldwide, the National Center for Medical Intelligence ( NCMI ) in Fort Detrick, Maryland, and the Missile and Space Intelligence Center ( MSIC ) in Huntsville, Alabama and is in the process of building the new Defense Intelligence Support Center ( DISC ) in Reston, Virginia.

Both the center and the battalion are subordinate to the new Streitkräftebasis ( Joint Services Support Command, SKB ) and together consist of about 1, 200 soldiers specialising in modern communication and media technologies.

From December 1992 to May 1993, Fort Hood soldiers deployed to Somalia for Operation Restore Hope to command and control the Joint Task Force Support Command.
