Along with Jon Schaffer, the leader and founder of Iced Earth, Kürsch is a member of Demons and Wizards, where he is the lead singer.

On December 11, 2007, Iced Earth's Jon Schaffer announced that Tim Owens would be leaving the band as Matt Barlow had been invited to return to the line-up after heavy feedback from fans.

It is made up of the vocalist for Blind Guardian, Hansi Kürsch, and the guitarist of Iced Earth, Jon Schaffer.

Because the band were left without a bassist and lead guitar player, Jon Schaffer ended up performing most of the lead guitar and bass parts on the album ( although some tracks featured playing from producer Jim Morris, Troy Seele and Dennis Hayes ).

Majority of the album's music had been recorded at the same time as Framing Armageddon, and originally Jon Schaffer had planned to finish the album after the end of 2007.

According to Jon Schaffer, Iced Earth expects to begin writing new material for an eleventh studio album in the fall of 2012.

The most distinctive element of the band's sound is the stutter-like right-hand gallop of rhythm guitarist Jon Schaffer, which sounds something like the ' eighth-note, two-sixteenth-notes ' gallop made famous by Iron Maiden's bass player / songwriter Steve Harris.
