Bombardier Inc. () is a Canadian multinational aerospace and transportation company, founded by Joseph-Armand Bombardier as L ' Auto-Neige Bombardier Limitée in 1942, at Valcourt in the Eastern Townships, Quebec.

Joseph-Armand Bombardier () ( April 16, 1907 – February 18, 1964 ) was a Canadian inventor and businessman, and was the founder of Bombardier.

This led Joseph-Armand Bombardier to diversify into other off-terrain tracked vehicles, such as a heavy-duty Muskeg tractor meant for mining exploration and the forestry industries.

In 2000, Joseph-Armand Bombardier was honoured by the government of Canada with his image on a postage stamp.

The designation Autoroute Joseph-Armand Bombardier is in honour of Quebec businessman Joseph-Armand Bombardier, who lived in Valcourt, near where A-55 passes and who invented the snowmobile there.

Before the start of the company's development of track vehicles, Joseph-Armand Bombardier experimented with propeller driven snow vehicles ( similar to Russian aerosans ).

With the snow and ice of Canada in mind, Joseph-Armand Bombardier developed 7 and 12 passenger half-track autoneiges in the 1930s, starting what would become the Bombardier industrial conglomerate.

The Ski-doo was originally called the " Ski-Dog " because Bombardier meant it to be a practical vehicle to replace the dogsled for hunters and trappers.

In 1967 L ' Auto-Neige Bombardier Limitée was renamed Bombardier Limited and on January 23, 1969, the company went public, listing on the Montreal and Toronto stock exchanges.

Learjet continues to operate as a subsidiary of Bombardier and manufactures jets under the Learjet name. The slogan was changed in 2012 to the Evolution of Mobility from We Move People.
