Kendleton ISD ceased operations on that date.

I believe students would be ill-served if Kendleton is allowed to continue to operate.

Pending Justice Department approval, the Kendleton Independent School District and its one school, Powell Point Elementary, were merged into Lamar CISD on July 1, 2010.

The Texas Education Agency pledges to work with the citizens of Kendleton and Lamar Consolidated to make this transition as smooth as possible .” As a result of the closure, students at Powell Point were rezoned to Beasley and Wessendorf.

The district had served middle and high school students from the Kendleton Independent School District's boundaries before the district's demise, and after the district ended LCISD began serving the former Kendleton district's elementary school population.

According to the Handbook of Texas, area residents estimated that about 2, 200 people lived in Kendleton and surrounding areas.

Darryl Humphrey, the mayor of Kendleton, criticized the proposed closing.

Historically the Kendleton area schools served Kendleton and surrounding communities.

In the appeal hearing, the UIL ruled that Stratford would be allowed to remain in Class 5A, and the Spartans were assigned to District 18, where they will face the three other SBISD schools ( including Memorial ), three high schools from Alief ISD, and private school Strake Jesuit.
