Arnulf of Carinthia ( 850 – 8 December 899 ) was the Carolingian King of East Francia from 887, the disputed King of Italy from 894 and the disputed Holy Roman Emperor from 22 February 896 until his death.

Arnulf was, according to most sources, the illegitimate son of Carloman, King of Bavaria, and his concubine Liutswind, perhaps of Carantanian origin, and possibly the sister of Ernst, Count of the Bavarian Nordgau Margraviate in the area of the Upper Palatinate, or perhaps the burgrave of Passau, as some sources say.

Arnulf was granted the Duchy of Carinthia, a Frankish vassal state and successor of the ancient Principality of Carantania, by his father Carloman, after Carloman had become reconciled with his own father Louis the German and was created King of Bavaria.

Later, after he had been crowned King of East Francia, Arnulf turned his old territory of Carinthia into the March of Carinthia, a part of the Duchy of Bavaria.

Arnulf, having distinguished himself in the war against the Slavs was elected by the nobles of the realm ( only the eastern realm, though Charles had ruled the whole of the Frankish lands ) and assumed his title of King of East Francia.

His march northward through the Alps was interrupted by Rudolph, King of Transjurane Burgundy, and it was only with great difficulty that Arnulf crossed the mountain range.

Duke Burchard II of Swabia soon swore fealty to the new King, but Duke Arnulf of Bavaria did not submit until Henry defeated him in two campaigns in 921.

Arnulf was deposed in 991 for alleged treason against the King, and Gerbert was elected his successor.

At the time of Svatopluk I and King Arnulf of Carinthia in the 9th century, Silesia was a part of Greater Moravia ; after its destruction in the early 10th century, it was conquered by Bohemia.

To withstand Saxon overlordship Wenceslaus ' father Vratislaus had forged an alliance with the Bavarian duke Arnulf the Bad, then a fierce opponent of King Henry ; however, it became worthless when Arnulf and Henry reconciled at Regensburg in 921.

Early in 929 the joint forces of Duke Arnulf of Bavaria and King Henry I the Fowler reached Prague in a sudden attack, which forced Wenceslaus to resume the payment of a tribute which had been first imposed by the East Frankish king Arnulf of Carinthia in 895.

One of his sons, Henry, sometimes called margrave and duke in Franconia under King Charles the Fat of East Francia, fell fighting against the Normans in 886 ; another, Poppo, was margrave in Thuringia from 880 to 892, when he was deposed by King Charles successor Arnulf of Carinthia.

The following year his nephew Arnulf of Carinthia, the illegitimate son of King Carloman of Bavaria, raised the standard of rebellion.

The Empire of the Carolingians was divided: Arnulf maintained Carinthia, Bavaria, Lorraine and modern Germany ; Count Odo of Paris was elected King of Western Francia ( France ), Ranulf II became King of Aquitaine, Italy went to Count Berengar of Friuli, Upper Burgundy to Rudolph I, and Lower Burgundy to Louis the Blind, the son of Boso of Arles, King of Lower Burgundy.

In 889 the town was given merchant, customs, and coinage privileges by King Arnulf of Carinthia.

In 887 Arnulf of Carinthia ( 850-899 ), a bastard grandson of Louis the German, assumed his title of King of the East Franks and became the first Duke of Carinthia.

On arrival at headquarters he had, however -- in King Stanislas' words to Glayre -- `` found such favor with Pe Potemkin that he made him his aide-de-camp and up to now does not want him to go join Paul Jones.

In the 1960 film David and Goliath, Abner ( Massimo Serato ) tries to murder David ( Ivica Pajer ) when he returns in triumph after killing Goliath ; however, Abner is slain by King Saul ( Orson Welles ).

This was not, however, the point in which Alfred came to be known as King of England ; in fact he would never adopt the title for himself.

Arne confessed to her father that she was with child by the god Poseidon ; her father, however, did not believe her, and handed her over to a man named Metapontus, King of Icaria.

Daniel Amneus, however, argues that when Ross and Angus bring King Duncan's praise, and the news that Macbeth has been granted the title of Thane of Cawdor, the " greater honor " he ascribes to Macbeth is actually his title as Prince of Cumberland.

When it started in 1970, the Universal Press Syndicate gave cartoonists a 50-percent share on the ownership of their works, while the Creators Syndicate ( founded in 1987 ) granted artists full rights to the strips, something that Universal Press did in 1990. followed by King Features in 1995, while before 1999 both the Tribune and United Feature services began granting rights to creators over their works ; however the latter three syndicates only applied this to new strips, or to ones popular enough.

Pope St. Gregory, however, tolerated in Lombardy those persons who defended them, among whom was King Agilulf.

One might note, however, that what is assumed to be a niche for the Torah scroll in the building probably originally built as a Judeo-Christian synagogue between AD 70 and AD 135 on the traditional site of the Cenacle or upper room of the Last Supper and now identified as the site of the King David's Tomb is oriented not towards the Temple Mount, but towards the site of the Holy Sepulchre, which would seem to indicate that the Christian community that had built it had already began to transfer many of the religious traditions originally associated with the Temple to the sites they associated with Christ's death and resurrection ( such as the burial place of Adam and the centre of the world ).

Eventually, however, the corps became respected enough that King Ghezo ordered every family to send him their daughters, with the most fit being chosen as soldiers.

The new Bourbon King, Louis XVIII, however, granted amnesty to David and even offered him the position of court painter.

There were exceptions to this rule however, such as the full-sized elves who appear in Lord Dunsany's The King of Elfland's Daughter as well as Northern English and Scottish Lowlands folklore ( as seen in such tales as The Queen of Elfan's Nourice and other local variants ).

The King, however, was madly in love with his beautiful and worldly bride and granted her every whim, even though her behavior baffled and vexed him no end.

As they ascended the mountains, however, the army and the King and Queen were left horrified by the unburied corpses of the previously slaughtered German army.

De Rancon however chose to march further, deciding in concert with the Count of Maurienne ( Louis ´ uncle ) that a nearby plateau would make a better camp: such disobedience was reportedly common in the army, due to the lack of command from the King.

Their two daughters were, however, declared legitimate and custody of them awarded to King Louis.

The King, however, agreed to the proposition on 27 December ; but he left discussion of the weight of each vote to the Estates-General itself.

That film, however, was not a sequel to King Kong vs. Godzilla.

Germany had no direct interest in the Balkans, however, which was largely an Austrian and Russian sphere of influence, although King Carol of Romania was a German prince.

An amusing anecdote is about Henry III's attending the French Parlement, as Duke of Aquitaine ; however, the King of England was always late because he liked to stop each time he met a priest to hear the mass, so Louis made sure no priest was on the way of Henry III.

( In the later novels, To Play the King and The Final Cut, however, she is called ' Elizabeth ' and plays a larger role, as in the television series.

Only six of the electors, however, had the right to sit at ordinary meetings: " The King of Bohemia, who was in fact not a prince of the Empire but a neighbouring and independent monarch, might vote at an imperial election, but was allowed on no other occasion to meddle in the affairs of the Empire.

Seraj-ul-Emarat, the residence of Amir Habibullah and King Amanullah was destroyed in 1929 when Habibullah Kalakani rose to power ; the other sanctuaries however, retain vestiges of the past.

The romance tradition did, however, remain sufficiently powerful to persuade Thomas Hardy, Laurence Binyon and John Masefield to compose Arthurian plays, and T. S. Eliot alludes to the Arthur myth ( but not Arthur ) in his poem The Waste Land, which mentions the Fisher King.

Because of its Scottish theme, the play is sometimes said to have been written for, and perhaps debuted for, King James ; however, no external evidence supports this hypothesis.

According to Gilbert Burnet, however, Mary convinced her husband that she did not care for political power, and told him " she would be no more but his wife, and that she would do all that lay in her power to make him King for life ".
